Insane effort by the actors and a complex story line; still I could follow every subplot very well and there were almost no filler scenes, as it cuts to a different time when a point has been made.
90 Drive (2011) tt0780504 Feb 01 2017, 08:45 A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong. It does not do much, but it assembles the parts so nicely. This is a film that can be called "art" as much as a painting.

An almost perfect spy film. The pieces fit together very nicely - although there is an occasional sketchy moment -, and Sean Connery carries the film all the way through.
70 The Game (1997) tt0119174 Feb 06 2017, 10:25 Wealthy financier Nicholas Van Orton gets a strange birthday present from wayward brother Conrad: a live-action game that consumes his life. It starts calmly and then escalates. Watch it once, then it's pretty great.

It's 1863 and lower Manhattan is run by gangs, the most powerful of which is the Natives, headed by Bill "The Butcher" Cutting. He believes that America should belong to native-born Americans and opposes the waves of immigrants, mostly Irish, entering the city. (imdb) The intro is truly special and memorable. After that the story slows down a lot, but you still want to see what happens next.
70 The Ghost Writer (2010) tt1139328 Feb 01 2017, 09:15 A ghostwriter hired to complete the memoirs of a former British prime minister uncovers secrets that put his own life in risk. Good protagonist, really nice visuals and feeling. Watching once is enough.

When a hotshot executive from the head office arrives and proposes a vicious sales contest, competition gets stiff, and salesmen who have worked a lifetime for the company find their jobs in jeopardy. (Artisan) Dense "classical drama" on screen. Theatrical performances and dialogue, with the typical dramatic tension "triangle". Refreshing mind exercise.
70 The Godfather (1972) tt0068646 Feb 01 2017, 11:32 Francis Ford Coppola's epic features Marlon Brando in his Oscar-winning role as the patriarch of the Corleone family. Director Coppola paints a chilling portrait of the Sicilian clan's rise and near fall from power in America, masterfully balancing the story between the Corleone's family life and the ugly crime business in which they are engaged... (Paramount Pictures) The feeling and style of this is enchanting. A good movie on any standard.

70 Green Room (2016) tt4062536 Mar 13 2017, 17:08 A young punk rock band find themselves trapped in a secluded venue after stumbling upon a horrific act of violence. (imdb) In the beginning, it's extremely suspenseful, but then it decreases moderately - in the middle/end, almost feels too long. I'm missing a key moment of brilliance. But to be fair, Saulnier nailed the final shot again (and this shot "unlocks" the whole film).
70 Grindhouse (2007) tt0462322 Feb 02 2017, 20:13 A double-bill of thrillers that recall both filmmakers' favorite exploitation films. "Grindhouse" (a downtown movie theater in disrepair since its glory days as a movie palace known for "grinding out" non-stop double-bill programs of B-movies) is presented as one full-length feature comprised of two individual films helmed separately by each director. (imdb) This one is a unique, exciting experience. Part 1 is a fucking badass action slaughterfest. Part 2 is quite an anticlimax to that; a lone antagonist is roaming the streets. - The cinema simulation is well done and the trailers are hilarious.
70 The Gunfighter (1950) tt0042531 May 27 2017, 08:51 Notorious gunfighter Jimmy Ringo rides into town to find his true love, who doesn't want to see him. The story: the soon-to-be First Emperor of China is on the brink of conquering a war-torn land. Three opponents are determined to assassinate him and one loyal subject stands in their way. The pond fight is the best fight scene ever and encapsulates all the great things about this film: rampant sword action, unobtrusive score, extreme attention to detail and "diligence".

(imdb) Some great things happen here, but the constant music and a slight feeling of non-science ("love goes beyond time and space"??) were a bit annoying.
70 The Irishman (2019) tt1302006 Jan 04 2020, 09:07 A mob hitman recalls his possible involvement with the slaying of Jimmy Hoffa. A 3.5 hour monument, laced with music and sweeping camera moves. I really enjoyed the slow pacing and the very extensive "exposition" part. The last hour is ice-cold intense.

They must begin to rebuild their lives after the loss of more than 100 people. (imdb) Season 1: Great start. Almost no weak or uninteresting moments. The divine score is perfect. - Season 2 is tolerable. It's irritating at first, and sometimes it feels really petty and stupid. Still, a necessary continuation. - Season 3 is good; some repetitive scenes, lacking excitement. The final episode is impressive. -- Justin Theroux is great.

Perhaps most importantly, however, the story reveals the huge part luck plays in the events of our lives, refuting the comforting misconception that more of life is under our control than really is. (Dream Works Pictures) Great film, down-to-earth but it gets twisted, with nice acting. The ending is memorable even 2 years later.

When Vail hears that a penniless altar boy is accused of murdering the local archbishop, he snaps up the case, eager for the media spotlight. Little does he know that it will uncover a viper's nest of corruption... Really good. I like the grainy 90s style and the score. It is basically just a courtroom drama, but I was in the right mood for it.

Dick's own experiences, A Scanner Darkly tells the darkly comedic, caustic, but deeply tragic tale of drug use in the modern world. The film plays like a graphic novel come to life with live-action photography overlaid with an advanced animation process -- a method known as interpolated rotoscoping, first employed in writer/director Richard Linklater's 2001 film "Waking Life" -- to create a haunting version of America, seven years from now. (Warner Independent Pictures) Really, really slick optics.

70 There Will Be Blood (2007) tt0469494 Feb 03 2017, 05:49 A story about family, greed, religion, and oil, centered around a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business. Sure, a great Day-Lewis performance, and a great visual style. I wish every film could do a bit of what was done here on the photography. But it loses pace later; I wondered, "was that it?".
70 Thunderball (1965) tt0059800 Feb 11 2018, 20:38 James Bond heads to The Bahamas to recover two nuclear warheads stolen by SPECTRE agent Emilio Largo in an international extortion scheme. A clunky but very enjoyable Bond adventure.
70 The Train (1964) tt0059825 Feb 19 2018, 18:38 In 1944, a German colonel loads a train with French art treasures to send to Germany. The Resistance must stop it without damaging the cargo. (imdb) Not as good as I expected. Still a good, vigorous movie; especially impressed by the smart characters on both sides. There are no brainless henchmen, which makes it rather intense at times.
70 True Detective (2014) tt2356777 Feb 06 2017, 13:39 An anthology series in which police investigations unearth the personal and professional secrets of those involved, both within and outside the law. (imdb) It is enjoyable and captivating, even with the slow, slow pacing. - In series 1, many of great moments were had in the first two episodes, and then the momentum decreased massively; for the sake of reverse introduction. - Series 2 is linear, with good protagonists; also with lots of filler; it was probably a bad idea to make it less mysterious. - Series 3 is pretty good, jumping between timelines, but loses intensity later; seems like purposefully evading gritty moments.
70 Twin Peaks (2017) tt4093826 Jul 07 2018, 16:18 A continuation of the original Twin Peaks series (1990-1991). David Lynch tries to clean up his mess.

In one night David meets a girl of his dreams and loses her by making a small mistake. Thrust unexpectedly onto a roller-coaster ride of romance, comedy, suspicion, love, sex and dreams, David finds himself on a mind-bending search for his soul and discovers the precious, ephemeral nature of true love. (Paramount Pictures) A film that effectively sucks you in. At the end, I was left questioning everything.
70 Wild at Heart (1990) tt0100935 Jul 16 2018, 21:36 Sailor and Lula are in love in a way that seems so strong that nothing could ever corrupt it. Yet their past contains ghosts, and there are dark forces which are railed against them. As Sailor and Lula head out by road across the United States, these ghosts and these forces slowly catch up with them, putting their love to the test, and ultimately placing it in jeopardy. Simplistic story, but the great protagonists elevate it to another level. There are some weird scenes mixed in (most of them add to the experience). Good editing and soundtrack.
70 The Wrestler (2008) tt1125849 Feb 06 2017, 10:35 A drama centered on retired professional wrestler Randy "The Ram" Robinson (Rourke) as he makes his way through the independent circuit, trying to get back in the game for one final showdown with his former rival. (imdb) Interesting stuff. The protagonist does a great job at selling the story.
60 11:14 (2003) tt0331811 Jul 16 2017, 20:23 11:14 tells the seemingly random yet vitally connected story of a set of incidents that all converge one evening at 11:14pm. It's a sort of musical chairs with a corpse, with the structurally intriguing storytelling style of "Memento" and "Run Lola Run." (Media 8 Entertainment) Pretty good dark comedy/"mystery", ties together nicely at the end. Some downright hilarious moments.
60 12 Monkeys (1995) tt0114746 Feb 16 2017, 18:06 Between sanity and madness, fantasy and reality, the past and the future, comes an adventure beyond imagination from Terry Gilliam, the acclaimed director of "The Fisher King." Penal colony prisoner James Cole (Willis) must travel back in time from the year 2035 to find the cause of a virus that killed five billion people in 1997. (Universal) Pretty good, but also unsatisfying.
60 25th Hour (2002) tt0307901 Jul 17 2017, 20:25 The 25th Hour depicts the last day of freedom for a young man before he begins serving a seven-year jail term for drug dealing. Prowling through the city until dawn with his two close male friends and his girlfriend, he is forced to re-examine his life and how he got himself into his predicament, which leads to a shocking, disturbing finale. (imdb) The greatest trick Spike Lee ever pulled, was making me expect a great reveal at the end of this film. Nonetheless, the ride was quite enjoyable.
60 The 47 Ronin (1941) tt0033654 Aug 09 2017, 14:50 Lord Asano resists a bribery attempt by a member of the Shogun's court. His honesty, however, is useless against the corruption of the administration... (imdb) It was strangely intriguing for a long time, but then the film made the unacceptable decision to *not* show the central event that the characters were working towards. - Very unsatisfying, but overall still recommended.
60 The Accountant (2001) tt0222675 Feb 13 2017, 19:59 The Accountant, the 2001 Academy Award Winning ® Best Action Live Short film, tells the story of a mysterious accountant whose remarkable mathematical skills just might save the O'Dell family farm. (ginnymulepictures) Pretty entertaining short film with an authentic vibe.
60 Ahlat Agaci (2018) tt6628102 Feb 10 2019, 20:40 For some, the countryside is a place of exile where all hopes ultimately merge with solitude. A boundless place of exile where all hopes and dreams merge with despair like the coinciding destinies of fathers and sons. (imdb) It looks beautiful, but I found it too long and repetitive, and I didn't really care about any of the characters.
60 Akira (1988) tt0094625 Aug 15 2017, 19:46 Kaneda is a bike gang leader whose close friend Tetsuo gets involved in a government secret project known as Akira. On his way to save Tetsuo, Kaneda runs into a group of anti-government activists, greedy politicians, irresponsible scientists and a powerful military leader. The confrontation sparks off Tetsuo's supernatural power leading to bloody death, a coup attempt and the final battle in Tokyo Olympiad where Akira's secrets were buried 30 years ago. (imdb) It's alright, but has only a few short moments of greatness.
60 Alien (1979) tt0078748 Feb 24 2017, 18:49 After a space merchant vessel perceives an unknown transmission as distress call, its landing on the source moon finds one of the crew attacked by a mysterious life-form, and they soon realize that its life cycle has merely begun. Nice atmosphere at the beginning, and some shocking moments. But I found it not very gripping, especially in the middle.
60 All the President's Men (1976) tt0074119 Dec 16 2018, 12:41 Reporters Woodward and Bernstein uncover the details of the Watergate scandal that leads to President Nixon's resignation. Pretty intense at times, driven by the two good protagonists.

(imdb) Short and laid-back video diary. Not riveting, not boring.
60 American Beauty (1999) tt0169547 Feb 06 2017, 13:26 Provoked by forbidden passions, Lester Burnham (Spacey) decides to make a few changes in his rut of a life, changes that are less midlife crisis than adolescence reborn. The freer he gets, the happier he gets, which is even more maddening to his wife, Carolyn (Bening), and daughter Jane (Birch) --especially when he turns his lustful gaze toward Jane's friend, the sultry Angela (Suvari). (Dreamworks SKG) Relatable protagonist. The story was quite intriguing, but the ending is just the result of awfully convenient and stupid moments.
60 American Gods (2017) tt1898069 Feb 01 2019, 12:04 A recently released ex-convict named Shadow meets a mysterious man who calls himself "Wednesday" and who knows more than he first seems to about Shadow's life and past. (imdb) Season 1 starts really good (visual ecstasy!), but goes downhill from episode 4: the series entirely discards the more interesting story line for a few hours, only to end on an annoying teaser.
60 The American (2010) tt1440728 Feb 01 2017, 07:46 An assassin hides out in Italy for one last assignment. Slow moving, but it has some nice scenes and a good protagonist.
60 Apocalypto (2006) tt0472043 Feb 03 2017, 07:08 A heart stopping mythic action-adventure set against the turbulent end times of the once great Mayan civilization. Epic proportions, with authenticity. The protagonist goes through a hell where it's "eat or be eaten".
60 Aquarius (2015) tt3768572 Jun 23 2018, 18:07 A gritty 1960s cop drama about a cop who goes undercover to track Charles Manson and the Manson Family before their infamous murder spree. (imdb) Season 1: Starts really cool, but after a while it is just going nowhere. Still not bad, with an enjoyable protagonist. - Season 2: It's fine. I wanted a continuation of the series, and it is satisfying in many ways. Less coherent than season 1, crazy and unexpected events. -- Overall, some good characters, but rather lacking in soundtrack and style.
60 The Aviator (2004) tt0338751 Feb 03 2017, 12:15 A biographical chronicle which charts the early years of famous tycoon, Howard Hughes, whose eclectic career spanned across everything from oil, to film, casinos, and aviation. Appealing style, and a great protagonist. The Hepburn character was very annoying; but all other things were pretty good. It's long but it keeps you entertained.
60 Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) tt0047849 Jan 03 2019, 13:54 A one handed stranger comes to a tiny town possessing a terrible past they want to keep secret, by violent means if necessary. Fun little story. Not a lot is going on, but the protagonist is interesting.
60 Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009) tt1095217 Feb 09 2017, 10:15 A rogue detective is as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs - while playing fast and loose with the law. The visuals and score are weird, a bit too stylized for my taste, and there are some boring scenes. But Nicolas Cage is a fun protagonist.
60 Bad Times at the El Royale (2018) tt6628394 Jan 03 2019, 19:38 Seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe's El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption - before everything goes to hell. Sure-handed sound and visual design, which is very much appreciated. Maybe a bit lengthy, and a bit too messy, but enjoyable regardless.
60 The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018) tt6412452 Dec 02 2018, 10:07 Saddle up for six tales about the American frontier from the unique minds of Joel and Ethan Coen, who wrote and directed this anthology. Funny, charming and weird. Some of the stories are wonderful, others a bit annoying. Overall, more coherent than other full-length films that have to manage just one story. Just a genuinely nice experience.
60 Band of Brothers (2001) tt0185906 Feb 17 2019, 12:08 A 10 episode mini series that follows Easy Company of the 101st Airborne from pre-D Day training through 2 long years of fighting in France, Holland, and Germany. You really learn to respect and love these men. Be sure and watch the Reunion disc with the real men of Easy Company. (DuaneNeitzel) Good and elaborate war drama. Basically a documentary without all the useless talking heads and more investment.

But then Kalle watches a porn video 'starring' his girlfriend and he breaks free to take revenge. Suddenly, Keek is in desperate need of cash and even the weirdest scheme seems promising. (imdb) Pretty good, hand-crafted movie. Authentic characters, and a few nice scenes. -- Not amazing, but an enjoyable watch.
60 Before Sunrise (1995) tt0112471 Feb 25 2018, 19:28 A young man and woman meet on a train in Europe, and wind up spending one evening together in Vienna. Unfortunately, both know that this will probably be their only night together It was okay. The two actors are pretty good and there certainly is chemistry between them.
60 Being John Malkovich (1999) tt0120601 Feb 26 2018, 10:37 Craig, a puppeteer, takes a filing job in a low-ceilinged office in Manhattan. Although married to the slightly askew Lotte, he hits on a colleague, the sexually frank Maxine. She's bored but snaps awake when he finds a portal leading inside John Malkovich: for 15 minutes you see, hear, and feel whatever JM is doing, then you fall out by the New Jersey Turnpike... (imdb) This was insane, but charming at times.
60 Berserk (1997) tt0318871 Mar 07 2017, 16:30 Gatsu is a skilled swordsman who joins forces with a mercenary group named 'The Band of the Hawk', lead by the charismatic Griffith, and fights with them as they battle their way into the royal court. (imdb) Some moments are very memorable, but sadly it is ~10 episodes too long; focusing on an unlikeable side character was a big mistake. But the philosophical dialogues between the two main characters are fantastic and if you watch a second time, you will see a clear predestination. -- The final episodes are incredible.
60 The Big Clock (1948) tt0040160 Apr 27 2019, 12:22 When powerful publishing tycoon Earl Janouth commits an act of murder at the height of passion, he cleverly begins to cover his tracks and frame an innocent man, whose identity he doesn't know, but who just happen to have contact with the murder victim. That man is a close associate on his magazine whom he enlists to trap this "killer" George Stroud. It's up to George to continue to "help" Janouth, to elude the police and to find proof of his innocence and Janouth's guilt. (imdb) Not bad at all. The story progresses nicely, forcing the protagonist into one corner after another, until the explosive finale.
60 The Big Heat (1953) tt0045555 Jan 14 2019, 21:10 Tough cop Dave Bannion takes on a politically powerful crime syndicate. (imdb) Nice, old-fashioned crime film.
60 The Big Kahuna (1999) tt0189584 Apr 29 2019, 13:32 On the last evening of a convention two seen-it-all industrial lubricant salesmen and a youngster from the research department gather in the hotel's hospitality suite to host a delegates party. The main aim is to get the business of one particular big fish. When it becomes apparent that it is the lad who has developed a direct line to the guy, his strong religious beliefs bring him into sharp conflict with his older and more cynical colleagues. It's okay for one watch. The meandering dialogue is thrown in liberally, but nothing is worth remembering except the last few minutes.
60 Blood Diamond (2006) tt0450259 Feb 03 2017, 05:35 Set against the backdrop of the chaos and civil war that enveloped 1990s Sierra Leone, Blood Diamond is the story of Danny Archer (DiCaprio), an ex-mercenary from Zimbabwe, and Solomon Vandy (Hounsou), a Mende fisherman. Both men are African, but their histories and their circumstances are as different as any can be until their fates become joined in a common quest to recover a rare pink diamond, the kind of stone that can transform a life... or end it. (Warner Bros.) A good and grim film on an epic scale. The terrifying feeling of the mines instantly comes to mind.
60 Blow Out (1981) tt0082085 Feb 21 2018, 18:39 A soundman accidentally records the evidence that proves a car "accident" was murder, and consequently finds himself in danger. (imdb) Good thriller, I guess. John Travolta is very good here.
60 Blow-Up (1966) tt0060176 Feb 12 2018, 19:55 A photographer who is talented but aimless has photographed violence and pain without feeling any involvement... (imdb) Interesting, almost like a stage piece, but only carried through by the good protagonist.
60 Blue Velvet (1986) tt0090756 Feb 17 2017, 11:26 Set in a small American town, Blue Velvet is a dark, sensuous mystery involving the intertwining lives of four very different individuals. The film's painful realism reminds us that we are not immune to the disturbing events which transpire in Blue Velvet's sleepy community. There is a darker side of life waiting for us all. (De Laurentiis Entertainment Group Inc.) Sensitive love story, but the mystery feels slapped on and unfitting.
60 Brick (2005) tt0393109 Jul 16 2017, 18:22 A teenage loner pushes his way into the underworld of a high school crime ring to investigate the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend. Very dense dialogue and a bright protagonist. Unfortunately, I could hardly understand some of the rambled lines, and the story is not that gripping.
60 Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974) tt0071249 Aug 17 2017, 21:20 A family scandal causes a wealthy and powerful Mexican rancher to make the pronouncement -- Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia! (imdb) This film is a good, straightforward action flick; not boring, not too stylized, with a mean undertone.
60 Bringing Out the Dead (1999) tt0163988 Feb 23 2018, 20:05 Surrounded by the injured and the dying, EMS paramedic Frank is dwelling in an urban night-world, crumbling under the accumulated weight of too many years of saving and losing lives. The film follows Frank over the course of fifty-six hours in his life as he reaches the very brink of spiritual collapse and redemption. Psychedelic trip through life and death, with a good protagonist.
60 Bronson (2009) tt1172570 Oct 30 2019, 16:18 The film follows the life of notorious Welsh prisoner Michael Gordon Peterson (played here by Tom Hardy), who was re-named Charles Bronson by his fight promoter. Born into a respectable middle class family, Peterson would nevertheless become one of Britain's most dangerous criminals, and is known for having spent almost his entire life in solitary confinement. (Wikipedia) Strange, but very intriguing. Tom Hardy is fantastic, making the protagonist absolutely enigmatic and scary. The pacing is pretty slow, and a bit more context would be nice.
60 Caliber 9 (1972) tt0067429 Aug 26 2017, 21:25 Just out of prison, ex-con Ugo Piazza meets his former employer, a psychopathic gangster Rocco who enjoys sick violence and torture... (imdb) Groovy, violent gangster flick. Pretty good.
60 Call Me by Your Name (2017) tt5726616 Dec 02 2018, 21:41 A romance between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. (imdb) The characters are pretty good, and the scenery is just beautiful. A difficult watch, and I'm not sure I get it.
60 Casablanca (1942) tt0034583 Apr 07 2018, 14:39 Classic film set in occupied Africa during the early days of World War II: An American expatriate meets a former lover, with unforeseen complications (imdb) Good, straightforward drama. Humphrey Bogart is great, as well as Conrad Veidt.
60 Casino (1995) tt0112641 Feb 02 2017, 18:16 This Martin Scorsese film depicts the Janus-like quality of Las Vegas--it has a glittering, glamorous face, as well as a brutal, cruel one. Ace Rothstein and Nicky Santoro, mobsters who move to Las Vegas to make their mark, live and work in this paradoxical world. Seen through their eyes, each as a foil to the other, the details of mob involvement in the casinos of the 1970's and '80's are revealed... (imdb) Sure had some good scenes, and good performers. But it's not better than 'good'.
60 Clockers (1995) tt0112688 Aug 17 2017, 11:53 Strike is a young city drug pusher under the tutelage of drug-lord Rodney Little, who, when not playing with model trains or drinking Moo for his ulcer, just likes to chill with his brothers near the benches outside the project houses. When a night man at a fast-food restaurant is found with four bullets in his body, Strike's older brother turns himself in as the killer... (imdb) It's good, but it takes a bit too long to get going. And I didn't like the lead actor.
60 Columbus (2017) tt5990474 Dec 23 2018, 17:03 A Korean-born man finds himself stuck in Columbus, Indiana, where his architect father is in a coma. The man meets a young woman who wants to stay in Columbus with her mother, a recovering addict, instead of pursuing her own dreams. (imdb) Very nice-looking and relaxing film. The girl's naive stupidity combines pretty well with the man's brutal honesty.
60 Le Conseguenze dell'amore (2004) tt0398883 Feb 06 2017, 13:21 Titta di Girolamo apparently has a regular and tedious life with nothing strange a part from his own name (as he uses to say). He lives in a Hotel in Lugano (Switzerland) since almost ten years, spending his days waiting for something we don't know. His life is too rigid, too detached following a flat routine... (imdb) A quiet, contemplating film; the protagonist is very sensitive. The message of the boredom of life is universally understandable to every human.
60 The Constant Gardener (2005) tt0387131 Aug 31 2018, 19:09 Adapted from the novel by John le Carre, this is a gripping romantic thriller that sweeps audiences along one man's emotional and global journey to uncover the truth behind a personal loss and a worldwide conspiracy. (Focus Features) Not only a good film, but also a reasonable adaptation (some complexity was removed obviously). It fits together very well without unnecessary detail.
60 The Cranes Are Flying (1957) tt0050634 Nov 06 2019, 17:55 Veronica plans a rendezvous with her lover, Boris, at the bank of river, only for him to be drafted into World War II shortly thereafter. (imdb) It's alright, but pretty straightforward. Could be a lot stronger with tighter editing.
60 Crank (2006) tt0479884 Feb 11 2018, 16:05 Chev Chelios (Statham) is about to begin his morning with an unexpected wake-up call. Groggy, practically unable to move and with a heart that's barely beating, he hears the voice of thug Ricky Verona, who reveals Chev has been poisoned in his sleep and only has an hour to live. As it turns out, Chev is a hit man who freelances for a major West Coast syndicate... (Lionsgate) Rampaging action film. Worth watching because it's fun.
60 Cross of Iron (1977) tt0074695 Jul 09 2018, 22:22 The film opens with a squad of seasoned German soldiers, led by a disillusioned but skilled sergeant... (imdb) Dirty, nihilistic war drama. Although the editing is sloppy, it comes out alright. -- I do like it when a movie knows when to be silent.
60 Dallas Buyers Club (2013) tt0790636 Feb 01 2017, 07:56 The story of Texas electrician Ron Woodroof and his battle with the medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies after being diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1986, and his search for alternative treatments that helped established a way in which fellow HIV-positive people could join for access to his supplies. (imdb) Pretty fun, mostly because of the protagonist. You feel invested and interested.
60 The Dark Knight (2008) tt0468569 Feb 12 2017, 12:03 Batman and James Gordon join forces with Gotham's new District Attorney, Harvey Dent, to take on a psychotic bank robber known as The Joker, whilst other forces plot against them, and Joker's crimes grow more and more deadly. Takes more time to introduce the new characters, therefore less snappy than Batman Begins. But this effort leads to a great ending.
60 Darker than black: Kuro no keiyakusha (2007) tt0995941 Oct 07 2018, 17:57 In Tokyo, an impenetrable field known as "Hell's Gate" appeared ten years ago. At the same time, psychics who wield paranormal powers at the cost of their conscience also emerged. Hei is one of the most powerful of these psychic agents, and along with his blind associate, Yin, works for one of the many rival agencies vying to unlock the mysteries of Hell's Gate. (imdb) A hard mystery series. It does not explain a lot, and sometimes I got extremely confused. -- Probably not made for a casual watch, but I didn't get engaged enough to follow every scene closely.
60 Darkman (1990) tt0099365 Feb 01 2017, 20:24 A hideously scarred and mentally unstable scientist seeks revenge against the crooks who made him like that. (imdb) A twisted protagonist makes this interesting to watch. It does many things better than your average hero movie.
60 Days of Heaven (1978) tt0077405 Feb 01 2017, 07:43 A hot-tempered farm laborer convinces the woman he loves to marry their rich but dying boss so that they can have a claim to his fortune (imdb) Sometimes beautiful, but also a lot of emptiness and boredom.
60 Dead Poets Society (1989) tt0097165 Mar 15 2017, 21:04 Painfully shy Todd Anderson has been sent to the school where his popular older brother was valedictorian. His room-mate, Neil, although exceedingly bright and popular, is very much under the thumb of his overbearing father. The two, along with their other friends, meet Professor Keating, their new English teacher, who tells them of the Dead Poets Society, and encourages them to go against the status quo. Each, in their own way, does this, and are changed for life. (imdb) Adequate film about friendship and believing in yourself and all that stuff.
60 Diamonds Are Forever (1971) tt0066995 Feb 12 2018, 19:47 007 goes to Las Vegas to investigate the disappearance of diamonds in transit and discovers the involvement of his enemy Blofeld. Flows together rather well - great antagonists, good score and a suave old Sean Connery. The plot is especially jumbled, but it is an enjoyable Bond film.
60 Do the Right Thing (1989) tt0097216 Feb 02 2017, 23:17 It's the hottest day of the year in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, and tensions are growing there, with the only local businesses being a Korean grocery and Sal's Pizzeria. Mookie, Sal's delivery boy, manages to always be at the center of the action. There are some great things; as an example the nicely crafted, genuine feeling neighborhood. Also the suspense that seems to float in the air, waiting to explode.
60 Eastern Promises (2007) tt0765443 Aug 30 2018, 18:13 The mysterious and charismatic Russian-born Nikolai Luzhin is a driver for one of London's most notorious organized crime families of Eastern European origin. The family is part of the Vory V Zakone criminal brotherhood. Headed by Semyon--whose courtly charm as the welcoming proprietor of the plush Trans-Siberian restaurant impeccably masks a cold, brutal core--the family is tested by Semyon's volatile son and enforcer, Kirill, who is more tightly bound to Nikolai than to his own father. (Focus Features) I liked it, although it is very linear first and confusing at the end.
60 End of Watch (2012) tt1855199 Mar 07 2017, 20:59 A drama centered on the long-term friendship and partnership between two cops. (imdb) Enjoyable and authentic cop film.
60 Eraserhead (1977) tt0074486 Feb 17 2017, 11:38 Henry Spencer's life spins out of control when conflict erupts in his strange yet simple world (imdb) Almost every event here is horrible to imagine; the creepy atmosphere amplifies this massively.
60 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) tt0338013 Feb 03 2017, 12:45 Joel (Carrey) is stunned to discover that his girlfriend Clementine (Winslet) has had her memories of their tumultuous relationship erased. Out of desperation, he contacts the inventor of the process, Dr. Howard Mierzwiak (Wilkinson), to have Clementine removed from his own memory. But as Joel's memories progressively disappear, he begins to rediscover his love for Clementine. (Focus Features) Good, humane film. The story can be predicted, but the style of "wandering around in one's memory" is great.
60 The Evil Dead (1981) tt0083907 Feb 01 2017, 12:24 Five friends travel to a cabin in the woods, where they unknowingly release flesh-possessing demons. Some great effects here, but in the middle of the film there is a weird stalling period and therefore a loss of tension.
60 Exotica (1994) tt0109759 Sep 05 2017, 21:23 The 'Exotica' is a nightclub on the outskirts of Toronto, where Eric, DJ and MC, watches nightly as his ex-girlfriend Christina performs... (imdb) Nice atmosphere, like a nightly taxi ride mixed with an oriental score. The plot is secondary.
60 Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) tt0432283 Feb 01 2017, 08:52 Angry farmers, tired of sharing their chickens with a sly fox, look to get rid of their opponent and his family. So nice and decent, it's incredible that someone got this approved by a production company.
60 Fargo (2014) tt2802850 Feb 01 2017, 11:58 The all new "true crime" case of Fargo's new chapter travels back to 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota, where a young State Police Officer investigates a case involving a local crime gang and a major Mob syndicate. (imdb) Very slick, modernized crime tales. -- Series 1 is better than the film, with a better protagonist and antagonist. The pacing could be faster. -- Series 2 is underwhelming and slow. The "shiny" optics don't fit well; most of the characters are unlikable or annoying. Not worth the time. -- I liked series 3 a lot more; it has uneven parts, but overall a great feeling of a "tightening noose".
60 A Fistful of Dollars (1964) tt0058461 Apr 29 2017, 09:29 A wandering gunfighter plays two rival families against each other in a town torn apart by greed, pride, and revenge. Enjoyable little film, carried by the unreachable coolness of Clint Eastwood.

60 Foxcatcher (2014) tt1100089 Mar 19 2018, 13:52 The greatest Olympic Wrestling Champion brother team joins Team Foxcatcher led by multimillionaire sponsor John E. du Pont as they train for the 1988 games in Seoul - a union that leads to unlikely circumstances. What did I just witness? No actors throwing lines at each other straight from the script, no sterilized sound effects, no unnecessary recap dialogue, generally great performances and a slow and exquisite style. All that being said, it was a bit too slow at times and I will probably not watch it again.
60 Frantic (1988) tt0095174 Mar 09 2017, 13:32 A doctor and his wife go to Paris for a medical conference. While showering, his wife disappears. I don't remember a lot about this film, but I had a good time with Harrison Ford running through Paris(?).

(imdb) Pretty intense and dirty. There's something great about young Reese Witherspoon kicking ass.

60 The French Connection (1971) tt0067116 Jul 19 2017, 20:31 A pair of NYC cops in the Narcotics Bureau stumble onto a drug smuggling job with a French connection. (imdb) Acceptable crime film with an authentic style. - Especially one scene was interesting, where a french guy picks some kind of sea urchin from a tide pool and just eats it casually. Truly mind-boggling.
60 Full Metal Jacket (1987) tt0093058 Feb 07 2017, 00:33 The story of an 18-year-old marine recruit named Private Joker - from his carnage-and-machismo boot camp to his climactic involvement in the heavy fighting in Hue during the 1968 Tet Offensive. [Warner Bros.] The beginning is very good and sets up the tension. Later you have intense moments, which were filmed amazingly stable and not overacted.
60 Funny Games (1997) tt0119167 Feb 01 2017, 08:25 Two psychotic young men take a mother, father, and son hostage in their vacation cabin and force them to play sadistic "games" with one another for their own amusement. (imdb) Unique with a great antagonist. Creepy and cold, like you know something bad will happen.
60 Gattaca (1997) tt0119177 Jan 21 2019, 18:40 An engrossing sci-fi thriller about an all-too-human man who dares to defy a system obsessed with genetic perfection.  (Sony) An alright science-fiction film. More melancholic and subdued than I expected.
60 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) tt1568346 Jan 25 2019, 18:45 Journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig) is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing for forty years by Lisbeth Salander (Mara), a young computer hacker. (imdb) Has the good old David Fincher feel; everything looks nice and well-crafted. The film also seems very long and tenacious, but not boring.
60 Glass (2019) tt6823368 May 10 2019, 14:37 Security guard David Dunn uses his supernatural abilities to track Kevin Wendell Crumb, a disturbed man who has twenty-four personalities. I almost stopped half-way because of stupidity, but I'm glad I didn't. The ending is pretty good.
60 The Godfather: A Novel for Television (1977) tt0809488 Feb 07 2017, 22:53 The first two Godfather films were re-edited together in chronological order with additional footage added. (imdb) An epic, vigorous tale of the old days.
60 Goldfinger (1964) tt0058150 Mar 02 2018, 11:19 Investigating a gold magnate's gold smuggling, James Bond uncovers a plot to contaminate the Fort Knox gold reserve. The score is by far the best Bond score I have heard. The film gets better in the second half, but it only gets really exciting for a few short scenes.
60 Gravity (2013) tt1454468 Jan 27 2019, 19:21 Astronauts attempt to return to earth after debris crashes into their space shuttle, leaving them drifting alone in space. (imdb) I only remember some parts, which were indeed very cool, in the sense that shitting your pants at 30 rotations/minute is cool.
60 Hamlet (1996) tt0116477 Feb 27 2018, 13:42 Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, returns home to find his father murdered and his mother remarrying the murderer, his uncle. Meanwhile, war is brewing. (imdb) It was good, and I did not get too bored. The dialogue flows along very well.

But the maid has a secret. She and a swindler who poses as a Japanese Count are scheming to get the Lady engaged, rob her fortune, and lock her up in a madhouse. All proceeds according to plan until Sookee starts to truly understand Hideko. (imdb) It started extremely strong - to a point where I actually got excited -, but then it got convoluted in its own plot. One twist too many.
60 Hard Boiled (1992) tt0104684 Feb 01 2017, 07:58 A tough as nails cop teams up with an undercover agent to shut down a sinister mobster and his crew. It gets dull after some time.

60 High Flying Bird (2019) tt8128188 Apr 29 2019, 18:32 A sports agent pitches a rookie basketball client on an intriguing and controversial business opportunity during a lockout. Story is mostly non-existent, but still a well-made and enjoyable film for an afternoon.
60 The Hurt Locker (2009) tt0887912 Feb 03 2017, 12:19 Iraq. Forced to play a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse in the chaos of war, an elite Army bomb squad unit must come together in a city where everyone is a potential enemy and every object could be a deadly bomb. (imdb) It stays intense all the way. Might rewatch because there were some nice scenes between the forced "character development".
60 I Saw the Devil (2010) tt1588170 Mar 27 2017, 07:07 A secret agent tracks a serial killer who murdered his fiancée. Good revenge thriller. It uses occasional physical and emotional violence, but it is never done unnecessarily.

60 In Cold Blood (1967) tt0061809 Feb 14 2017, 10:39 Originally released in 1967, In Cold Blood is the powerful, true story of a callous murder, based upon the best-selling novel by Truman Capote. (Sony) Appealing visuals and great score. But the story is linear and therefore could be told in a fraction of the time.
60 In the Electric Mist (2009) tt0910905 Feb 01 2019, 17:54 A detective in the deep South is led into a series of surreal encounters with a troop of Confederate soldiers. 60 Inland Empire (2006) tt0460829 Mar 29 2017, 10:27 An actress's perception of reality becomes increasingly distorted as she finds herself falling for her co-star in a remake of an unfinished Polish production that was supposedly cursed. Fuck you, Lynch!! Jump scares at 1:09h, 1:19h, 1:57h and 2:45h. Overall it's damn scary. Has "found footage" visuals, which is not as stylish, but works alright.
60 Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) tt2042568 Apr 07 2018, 11:08 A singer-songwriter navigates New York's folk music scene during the 1960s. (imdb) Although the protagonist is an asshole, and some very dark and terrible things get touched on, it still is not nauseating or depressing. Can be watched pretty comfortably.
60 Into the Inferno (2016) tt4846318 Jan 14 2018, 09:33 An exploration of active volcanoes around world. (imdb) Good and interesting, with some amazing images. I can't blame the director for taking the opportunity to take a look inside North Korea; also, the documentary is worth watching for the footage from the Ethiopian desert alone.
60 Intouchables (2011) tt1675434 Feb 03 2017, 04:55 A true story of two men who should never have met - a quadriplegic aristocrat who was injured in a paragliding accident and a young man from the projects. (imdb) A film for the heart. Good but nothing more.

To save his mother's life, Joutarou must tame his dark forces and travel around the world to Cairo, Egypt, where a hundred-year-old vampire thirsts for the blood of his family. (myanimelist.net) Overlong, silly and sometimes tedious. Gets really good in the last eight episodes. -- Honestly, why not cut it down from 48 to 36 episodes (or less)?
60 The Killer (1989) tt0097202 Feb 01 2017, 12:09 A disillusioned assassin accepts one last hit in hopes of using his earnings to restore vision to a singer he accidentally blinded, only to be double-crossed by his boss. 60 Knives Out (2019) tt8946378 Jan 04 2020, 09:13 A detective investigates the death of a patriarch of an eccentric, combative family. (imdb) It's alright, but a bit messy. Especially the ending escalated things very quickly, and some little details don't quite make sense. The score and camerawork is excellent and thrilling. -- Also, was Chris Evans forced at gunpoint to be a part of this movie?
60 La La Land (2016) tt3783958 Mar 22 2018, 21:13 A jazz pianist falls for an aspiring actress in Los Angeles. (imdb) Let's be clear: this is a musical. People are actually dancing and singing to poppy, colorful set pieces and cheerful melodies. It's still mostly enjoyable, but very cheesy. Most of the six musical sequences are bordering on the over-the-top, and if this was pulled off a little bit worse, the result would be catastrophic. But it works well; I can't remember one sequence where I felt really uncomfortable. That's all the praise I can give: a musical I ... enjoyed.

But all her troubles don't stop there. The criminals know where she is, and what they require the most in the house is in that very room. (imdb) It's okay, but nothing special. The "mobile phone scene" is truly exhilarating.

60 Primer (2004) tt0390384 Jul 02 2018, 21:49 While tweaking their current project, two young engineers accidentally discover that it has some highly unexpected capabilities--ones that could enable them to do and to have seemingly anything they want. Taking advantage of this unique opportunity is the first challenge they face. Dealing with the consequences is the next. (ThinkFilm) Pretty difficult to understand, but quick and interesting. -- What I have gathered so far (read after watching): the machine extends the A and B ends as far as the timer (~6 hours) and sends a copy back to the A end; the hotel is a safe place during the machine runtime; the failsafe causes a hard reset to the first day; the copies created by main machine and failsafe somehow dispose of their predecessors; the recording was made by a failsafe copy for "future" main copies.

60 Shutter Island (2010) tt1130884 Feb 03 2017, 08:51 Two U.S. Marshalls are sent to a federal institution for the criminally insane to capture a violent female escapee. One of the better psycho thriller(?) films.

60 Stalker (1979) tt0079944 Feb 02 2017, 22:50 Near a gray and unnamed city is The Zone, an alien place guarded by barbed wire and soldiers. It takes you in when you first watch it. This ambitious thriller is set in the American suburbs of the early 1990s - the pre-Columbine era. (IFFR) The locations are beautiful, and the whole film looks great. It gets a lot of things right, but the story seems a bit fabricated at times.

In Italy, Tom attaches himself to Dickie and to Marge, Dickie's cultured fiancée, pretending to love jazz and harboring homoerotic hopes as he soaks in luxury... 60 The Tenant (1976) tt0074811 Aug 06 2017, 11:17 A quiet and inconspicuous man (Trelkovsky) rents an apartment in France where the previous tenant committed suicide... It started very promising, and it delivered in the small pieces in between. But for such a masterful buildup, I was a bit let down by the ending.

Finding a map they believe will take them to the gold, the soldiers embark on a journey that leads to unexpected discoveries, enabling them to rise to a heroic challenge that drastically changes their lives. (Warner Brothers) Chaotic and crazy war film with very dark humor. More than a poor man's Full Metal Jacket, but the ending was too implausible for me.
60 A Time to Kill (1996) tt0117913 Mar 26 2017, 21:32 A young lawyer defends a black man accused of murdering two men who raped his 10-year-old daughter, sparking a rebirth of the KKK. [RELEASED IN 2005] It's alright but not very memorable.
60 A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014) tt0365907 Mar 22 2018, 10:15 Private investigator Matthew Scudder is hired by a drug kingpin to find out who kidnapped and murdered his wife. It has a Hollywood touch to it, which places it below war films like "The Thin Red Line" or even "Fury".
60 Westworld (2016) tt0475784 Dec 01 2018, 08:12 A series inspired by the 1973 film of the same title written by Michael Crichton about a futuristic theme park populated by artificial beings. (imdb) It's alright, I guess. Season 1 starts great, but a lot of the story doesn't make any sense and/or is too slow-paced, which is a bit annoying (almost as annoying as the "acting" of a certain female protagonist). The first season has no real conclusion, but I don't know if I'll keep watching.

The case will become an obsession for four men as their lives and careers are built and destroyed by the endless trail of clues. Moves slowly forward, but I didn't find it boring. It doesn't overact anything.
50 3:10 to Yuma (2007) tt0381849 Mar 15 2017, 21:01 A small-time rancher agrees to hold a captured outlaw who's awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma. A battle of wills ensues as the outlaw tries to psych out the rancher. (imdb) Too stylized for a real western - not only visuals, the performances and the camerawork too. It is a good film but nothing special.
50 Adaptation. (2002) tt0268126 Feb 19 2017, 21:52 The lives of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, author Susan Orlean and orchid poacher John Laroche become strangely intertwined as each one's search for passion collides with the others' in this adaptation of the best-selling "The Orchid Thief." If you like something "meta", then you will have great moments with this film. But overall it's too uneventful to be good on its own.
50 American Crime Story: The Assassination Of Gianni Versace (2018) tt5378852 Oct 01 2019, 20:12 Follows the manhunt for serial killer Andrew Cunanan in the aftermath of his assassination of Gianni Versace, contrasted with the early lives of both men. More or less tedious from start to finish. I was a bit intrigued by the reverse story, but there is nothing to justify the length of eight episodes.
50 Annihilation (2018) tt2798920 May 11 2018, 14:53 A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition where the laws of nature don't apply. (imdb) Not very good. Wasted potential on almost every level, only the soundtrack and "zone" design were pretty nice.
50 Apostle (2018) tt6217306 Nov 09 2018, 15:17 A man attempts to rescue his sister who's been kidnapped by a religious cult. (imdb) Not that great. The first half or so is mysterious and exciting, but the supernatural stuff really sucks.
50 The Book of Eli (2010) tt1037705 Feb 09 2017, 16:38 A lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind. I liked the wasteland design, and the protagonist is just right. The plot is unbelievably stupid. Actually I sided with the antagonist because what he said made a lot more sense.
50 Brazil (1985) tt0088846 May 05 2017, 19:33 Brazil is a surrealistic nightmare vision of a "perfect" future where technology reigns supreme. Everyone is monitored by a secret government agency that forbids love to interfere with efficiency. When a daydreaming bureaucrat (Pryce) becomes unwittingly involved with an underground superhero and a beautiful mystery woman, he becomes the tragic victim of his own romantic illusions. (Universal Pictures) The design is simply incredible. It's a shame that pretty much everything else sucks. The story is a mess, the protagonist is blunt and it feels too long.
50 Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013) tt2467372 Jan 06 2019, 16:42 Jake Peralta, an immature but talented NYPD detective in Brooklyn's 99th Precinct, comes into immediate conflict with his new commanding officer, the serious and stern Captain Ray Holt. (imdb) A comedy show that sacrifices everything for on-the-nose, expendable jokes. -- Basically it's the "junk food" of television: It gets very repetitive and stale when watching several episodes in a row, but I come back once in a while to check the new episodes.
50 Buena Vista Social Club (1999) tt0186508 Jul 01 2018, 15:48 This ground-breaking documentary, inspired by the album, includes appearances by legendary performers Ry & Joaquim Cooder, Ibrahim Ferrer, Ruben Gonzáles, Eliades Ochoa, Omara Portuondo, Compay Segundo and many other renowned Cuban Musicians. (Artisan Entertainment) It is alright. The documentary does not explain a lot, which is a shame. I just wanted that breakout moment.
50 Castello Cavalcanti (2013) tt3331512 May 06 2017, 13:43 Commissioned by the fashion giant Prada, it's set in 1955 and stars Jason Schwartzman as a Formula 1 driver who crashes his car into an Italian village. Looks nice.
50 Chungking Express (1994) tt0109424 Mar 25 2018, 09:45 Wong Kar-Wai's movie about two love-struck cops is filmed in impressionistic splashes of motion and color (imdb) It starts really good, but then it mysteriously switches characters. I liked the second story a lot less, mostly because of the obnoxious overuse of a certain song and the unlikable female character.
50 City of God (2002) tt0317248 Feb 11 2018, 16:20 Welcome to the world's most notorious slum: Rio de Janeiro's 'City of God.' A place where combat photographers fear to tread, where Police rarely go, and residents are lucky if they live to the age of 20. This is the true story of a young man who grew up on these streets and whose ambition as a photographer is our window in and ultimately may be his only way out. [Original Release 2002] (Miramax) I don't remember a lot about this film - uncertain if it is my or the movie's fault. I do remember that I was bored at times...
50 Class Rank (2018) tt5219972 Oct 13 2019, 21:05 Two high school outsiders join forces in an attempt to overtake the local school board. Guided by their families, they enter the perilous word of politics and, in the process, learn a thing or two about love. Essentially a dumb and corny love story with unlikable protagonists. I can't decide if the film wants to be taken seriously or not.
50 Collateral (2004) tt0369339 Feb 26 2018, 10:43 A cab driver finds himself the hostage of an engaging contract killer as he makes his rounds from hit to hit during one night in LA. He must find a way to save both himself and one last victim. It was "meh", as far as I remember.
50 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) tt0190332 Feb 09 2017, 16:17 The disappearance of a magical jade sword spurs a breathtaking quest for the missing treasure. Li is embittered by the loss of his jade sword, and his unrequited pursuit of Yu is further complicated by the mysterious intrusion of an assassin. The identity of the assassin is gradually unveiled as another poignant tale of love begins to ravel with that of Li and Yu against the backdrop of Western China's magnificent landscape. (imdb) The fight scenes are godlike. The rest drags itself along terribly, especially the "poignant tale of love"(??). Decide for yourself.
50 Deadwood (2004) tt0348914 Apr 02 2017, 11:56 A show set in the late 1800s, revolving around the characters of Deadwood, South Dakota; a town of deep corruption and crime. (imdb) Great moments can be had - mostly in the first few episodes -, but it degrades noticeably towards the ungraceful ending.
50 Deep Water (2016) tt6001964 May 05 2018, 13:56 When a young gay man is brutally murdered near Bondi Beach, Detectives Tori Lustigman and Nick Manning are assigned to investigate. After more bodies are found, Tori links the deaths to a series of murders of gay men in the 1980s and '90s. (imdb) This is one big cliché of a crime series. But it looks pretty.
50 Designated Survivor (2016) tt5296406 Aug 01 2018, 21:46 A low-level Cabinet member becomes President of the United States after a catastrophic attack kills everyone above him in the Presidential line of succession. Modern television crap. Inane dialogue, stone-faced acting, boring visuals and editing. -- Maybe I'll watch season 1 to the end, but only because I have nothing else to do.
50 Diabolique (1955) tt0046911 May 02 2017, 18:57 A man is killed by his wife and mistress, but his body disappears. What is going on? (imdb) The ending really is great, but overall the film takes too long to get going.
50 Dirty Harry (1971) tt0066999 Apr 21 2018, 16:39 A San Francisco cop with little regard for rules (but who always gets results) tries to track down a serial killer who snipes at random victims. (imdb) Starts great, but it is just too clunky and dumb. -- Strangely, I liked Magnum Force a lot more than this film.
50 District 9 (2009) tt1136608 Jan 27 2019, 19:23 An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth suddenly find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology. I saw the film some time ago, and it didn't really stick with me.
50 Encounters at the End of the World (2008) tt1093824 May 13 2017, 11:22 Filmmaker Werner Herzog travels to Antarctica to capture its landscape's rarely seen beauty on film. It's alright, from what I remember.
50 Enemy (2014) tt2316411 Feb 16 2017, 18:16 A man seeks out his exact look-alike after spotting him in a movie. (imdb) Starts very promising, but it's not reaching its potential at all - it's just a "smoke and mirrors" kind of film. Jake Gyllenhaal is great.
50 Enter the Void (2010) tt1191111 Feb 16 2017, 17:24 "Enter the Void" takes a hypnotic and hallucinatory trip through the eyes and mind of an American drug-dealer living in Tokyo with his sister. Nice idea, but the film is just too boring. The camera stays terribly long in one place, while I just want to see what's next.
50 The Equalizer 2 (2018) tt3766354 Sep 20 2018, 19:26 Robert McCall serves an unflinching justice for the exploited and oppressed, but how far will he go when that is someone he loves? Not very good. A lot of stupid, convenient shit happens, all subtlety or mystery is gone.
50 Equilibrium (2002) tt0238380 Jul 09 2018, 14:55 In a futuristic world, a strict regime has eliminated war by suppressing emotions: books, art and music are strictly forbidden and feeling is a crime punishable by death. Cleric John Preston (Bale) is a top ranking government agent responsible for destroying those who resist the rules. When he misses a dose of Prozium, a mind-altering drug that hinders emotion, Preston, who has been trained to enforce the strict laws of the new regime, suddenly becomes the only person capable of overthrowing it. High-powered trashy action movie: flamboyant editing, stylish plays with light and shadow, good score. The acting and plot are both mediocre.
50 Event Horizon (1997) tt0119081 Jul 03 2018, 20:18 The year is 2047. Years earlier, the pioneering research vessel Event Horizon vanished without a trace. Now a signal from it has been detected, and the United States Aerospace Command responds. Hurtling toward the signal's source are a fearless captain (Fishburne), his elite crew and the lost ship's designer (Neill). Their mission: find and salvage the state-of-the-art spacecraft. What they find is state-of-the-art interstellar terror... (Paramount) I don't like cheap scares, but otherwise this was mildly entertaining in a gruesome and hilarious way.
50 Ex Machina (2015) tt0470752 Feb 08 2017, 16:19 Caleb, a coder at the world's largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan, the reclusive CEO of the company. But when Caleb arrives at the remote location he finds that he will have to participate in a strange and fascinating experiment in which he must interact with the world's first true artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot girl. (imdb) Never got really interesting, although it tried very hard to seem sophisticated. The ending is just big nonsense.
50 Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) tt0120669 Mar 21 2018, 20:05 When a writing assignment lands journalist Raoul Duke and sidekick Dr. Gonzo in Las Vegas, they decide to make it the ultimate business trip. But before long, business is forgotten and trip has become the key word. Fueled by a suitcase full of mind-bending pharmaceuticals, Duke and Gonzo set off on a fast and furious ride through nonstop neon, surreal surroundings and a crew of the craziest characters ever. Nightmarish, bat-shit crazy and incoherent - in this regard, true to the book. The both protagonists put on a good show.
50 For a Few Dollars More (1965) tt0059578 Apr 29 2017, 09:32 Two bounty hunters with completely different intentions team up to track down a Western outlaw. Clint Eastwood is like a ray of sunlight to this film. Overall, too long and boring.
50 The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006) tt0808506 May 18 2019, 19:22 Tells a wonderful story centered on 3 friends, the tomboyish and clumsy Makoto Konono, and two hunks Chiaki Mamiya and Kousuke Tsuda. Theirs is a friendship formed after school at the baseball court where they spend quality time talking about typical teenage stuff. Things start to change however, when Makoto by accident gets the power to time travel (IMDB Comments) Too slow and clumsy. Not intriguing or exciting after the first ten minutes.
50 The Godfather: Part II (1974) tt0071562 Feb 03 2017, 07:02 The sequel to "The Godfather" continues the saga of two generations of successive power within the Corleone family. Coppola tells two stories in Part II: the roots and rise of a young Don Vito, played with uncanny ability by Robert De Niro, and the ascension of Michael (Al Pacino) as the new Don. (Paramount) Drawn out and lengthy. There are great scenes, but overall it feels forced, like the filmmaker was indebted to continue the "saga".
50 The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) tt0060196 Apr 29 2017, 09:36 Three gunmen set out to find a hidden fortune. Who will walk away with the cash? (imdb) It starts on the wrong foot (with an unnecessary recast). Unfortunately, the film does not get really interesting for the first 2 hours and 50 minutes.
50 The Great Wall (2016) tt2034800 Mar 20 2017, 14:39 European mercenaries searching for black powder become embroiled in the defense of the Great Wall of China against a horde of monstrous creatures Really good action movie. It has face-melting epicness, some actually funny dialogue, and excellent faction design. The big problems are the hasty editing and the bland score - and of course some parts towards the end. Overall has some rough parts, but it's not bad.
50 The Green Inferno (2015) tt2403021 Mar 14 2017, 09:52 A group of student activists travel from New York City to the Amazon to save a dying tribe but crash in the jungle and are taken hostage by the very natives they protected. (imdb) Merciless ultra-violent horror. It is enjoyable, but many technical items like visuals and score are only mediocre.
50 Grizzly Man (2005) tt0427312 May 05 2017, 14:42 In his mesmerizing new film, acclaimed director Werner Herzog explores the life and death of amateur grizzly bear expert and wildlife preservationist Timothy Treadwell. (Lions Gate Films) It manages to remain interesting most of the time. Watchable, but way too long.
50 Hardbodies (1984) tt0087385 Feb 03 2019, 20:52 Three middle-aged daddies visit California to have a marvelous time at the beach. When they learn that a nice apartment and an expensive cabriolet isn't enough for them to score with the chicks, they employ a student to help them. At first he's as disgusted of them and his job as his girlfriend, but soon they find out how to use the situation to everyone's benefit. (imdb) Well, it wasn't boring.
50 Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse (1991) tt0102015 Jul 17 2017, 10:38 Documentary that chronicles how Francis Ford Coppola's "Apocalypse Now" was plagued by extraordinary script, shooting, budget, and casting problems--nearly destroying the life and career of the celebrated director. (imdb) Seen it, forgot most about it.
50 High Fidelity (2000) tt0146882 Jul 17 2017, 17:19 In this biting romantic comedy, Rob Gordon (Cusack) is the owner of a semi-failing record store in Chicago, where he sells music the old-fashioned way -- on vinyl. His needle, however, skips the love groove when his long-time girlfriend, Laura (Hjejle), walks out on him. As he examines his failed attempts at romance and happiness, the process finds him being dragged, kicking and screaming, into adulthood. (Touchstone Pictures) I didn't feel entertained (except by Barry), but overall the film knows what it's going for.
50 The Hunt (2012) tt2106476 Jul 09 2018, 18:08 Following a tough divorce, 40-year-old Lucas has a new girlfriend, a new job and is in the process of reestablishing his relationship with his teenage son, Marcus. But things go awry. Not a lot. Just a slight comment. A random lie. And as the snow falls and the Christmas lights are lit, the lie spreads like an invisible virus. (mubi.com) I'm sure it has a deep psychological reasoning behind it, but all the time I was nothing but infuriated at the stupid characters. The scary part is that a lot of people are exactly this kind of hypocritical/naive morons.
50 I Stand Alone (1998) tt0157016 Aug 19 2017, 15:47 The Butcher (known from Noé's debut "Carne") has done some time in jail and now he wants to start a new life. He moves to Lille with his mistress. She promised him a new butcher shop. She lied. The butcher decides to go back to Paris and find his daughter. I think this is a wake-up call more than anything else. It certainly is no enjoyable experience, and might seriously disturb the sensitive viewer.
50 In a Lonely Place (1950) tt0042593 Jan 20 2019, 21:19 A potentially violent screenwriter is a murder suspect until his lovely neighbor clears him. But she begins to have doubts... (imdb) It's alright to pass the time and look at some old interiors. Nothing outstanding or remarkable happens here.
50 In the Heat of the Night (1967) tt0061811 Oct 10 2019, 20:42 An African American detective is asked to investigate a murder in a racist southern town. (imdb) Resting a bit too much on the white people being idiots. Besides that, there is no interesting story or developments.
50 Incendies (2010) tt1255953 Jul 19 2017, 11:52 A mother's last wishes send twins Jeanne and Simon on a journey to Middle East in search of their tangled roots. Adapted from Wajdi Mouawad's acclaimed play, Incendies tells the powerful and moving tale of two young adults' voyage to the core of deep-rooted hatred, never-ending wars and enduring love. (imdb) Strong movie, but I don't enjoy misery porn that much.
50 John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) tt4425200 May 16 2019, 14:03 After returning to the criminal underworld to repay a debt, John Wick discovers that a large bounty has been put on his life. Extreme gun action, and hardly anything else. The soundtrack is boring.
50 John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) tt6146586 Aug 26 2019, 08:16 Super-Assassin John Wick is on the run after killing a member of the international assassin's guild, and with a $14 million price tag on his head - he is the target of hit men and women everywhere. (imdb) Too self-important, trying desperately to keep the story going. -- Suddenly Lt. Daniels has an annoying Nigerian accent...
50 Knock Knock (2015) tt3605418 Mar 13 2017, 20:11 A pair of femme fatales wreak havoc on the life of a happily married man. (imdb) It is memorable for its psychological "voyeur" horror, but I don't feel a strong connection to the film.
50 Legion (2017) tt5114356 Jan 21 2019, 11:44 Legion follows the story of David Haller, a troubled young man who may be more than human. Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he's confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real. (rottentomatoes.com) Season 1 looks and sounds great, but the characters have no real weight to them, and the story is repetitive and mostly irrelevant. Could have been easily reduced from 8 to 4 episodes, without missing anything important. The ending is just shameless and disappointing.
50 The Limey (1999) tt0165854 May 06 2019, 17:42 Acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh's latest film follows the exploits of Wilson (Stamp), a tough English ex-con who travels to Los Angeles to avenge his daughter's death. (Artisan Entertainment) The film is missing a real story, and is not cool enough to justify it.
50 Lone Star (1996) tt0116905 Feb 20 2017, 23:44 John Sayles' murder-mystery explores interpersonal and interracial tensions in Rio County, Texas. Sam Deeds is the local sheriff who is called to investigate a 40-year-old skeleton found in the desert....As Sam delves deeper into the town's dark secrets, he begins to learn more about his father, the legendary former sheriff Buddy Deeds, who replaced the corrupt Charlie Wade... (imdb) It has a heart, but most of the scenes and characters are really boring.
50 Lost Highway (1997) tt0116922 Mar 22 2017, 16:41 A jazz musician, tortured by the notion that his wife is having an affair, suddenly finds himself accused of her murder. In a parallel story, a young mechanic is drawn into a web of deceit by a temptress who is cheating on her gangster boyfriend. A drawn out, impenetrable mess. Is it all symbolic? Is it all just bullshit? Who knows?
50 Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) tt1392190 Mar 29 2019, 22:26 An apocalyptic story set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and almost everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life. (imdb) It is missing the charm of the older films. Basically a very expensive stunt show without engaging story or characters.
50 Magnolia (1999) tt0175880 Mar 31 2017, 14:37 On one random day in the San Fernando Valley, a dying father, a young wife, a male caretaker, a famous lost son, a police officer in love, a boy genius, an ex-boy genius, a game show host and an estranged daughter will each become part of a dazzling multiplicity of plots, but one story. (New Line Cinema) I'm not convinced that this is a "masterpiece". I found it too long, and some of the plots are simply not needed. I disliked the normalized visual style, and the momentum is all over the place.
50 Manhattan (1979) tt0079522 Mar 26 2017, 12:08 A divorced New Yorker currently dating a high-schooler brings himself to look for love in the mistress of his best friend instead (imdb) Uninspiring study about relationships.
50 The Matrix Revolutions (2003) tt0242653 Feb 09 2017, 21:29 The human city of Zion defends itself against the massive invasion of the machines as Neo fights to end the war at another front while also opposing the rogue Agent Smith. Part 2 of the sequel-double-feature. Loads of action, but no sense of miracle and destiny whatsoever; a truly botched resolution of the trilogy. Watch if you have seen Reloaded.
50 Mean Streets (1973) tt0070379 Aug 30 2018, 19:09 A small-time hood struggles to succeed on the "mean streets" of Little Italy. (imdb) Pretty rough and unmemorable.
50 The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009) tt1234548 Mar 17 2017, 10:07 A reporter in Iraq might just have the story of a lifetime when he meets Lyn Cassady, a guy who claims to be a former member of the U.S. Army's First Earth Battalion, a unit that employs paranormal powers in their missions. Weird film, but forgettable.
50 Miller's Crossing (1990) tt0100150 Feb 01 2017, 08:09 A highly styled 'genre' film which can perhaps be seen as a pastiche of all gangster movies. Tom Reagan is the laconic anti-hero of this amoral tale which is also, paradoxically, a look at morals within the criminal underworld of the 1930s. Two rival gangs vie for control of a city where the police are pawns, and the periodic busts of illicit drinking establishments are no more than a way for one gang to get back at the other. Black humour and shocking violence compete for screen time as we question whether or not Tom, right-hand man of the Irish mob leader, really has a heart. (imdb) It is alright, but not worth more than one watch, maybe none at all if you are easily bored.
50 Moon (2009) tt1182345 Feb 03 2017, 04:57 Sam Bell is nearing the end of his contract with Lunar. He's been a faithful employee for 3 long years. His home has been Sarang, a moon base where he has spent his days alone, mining Helium 3. Creepy atmosphere, but doesn't keep the pace well.
50 Murder, My Sweet (1944) tt0037101 Apr 22 2019, 19:52 This adaptation of the Raymond Chandler novel 'Farewell, My Lovely', renamed for the American market... (imdb) That is one convoluted plot.. otherwise, nothing special.
50 New Kids Nitro (2011) tt2043932 Feb 28 2017, 12:36 Gerrie, Richard, Rikkert, Robbie and Barry from "Maaskantje" are in a big fight with the village of "Schijndel". When a zombie kills someone from "Brabant", things get out of hand. (imdb) A seamless continuation of the first film, but more confident with itself.
50 New Kids Turbo (2010) tt1648112 Feb 28 2017, 12:35 Five friends from 'Maaskantje' are getting fired because of the economic crisis. They decide that they won't pay for anything anymore. (imdb) Some funny moments, and it is refreshing to see something so unapologetic.
50 North by Northwest (1959) tt0053125 Feb 03 2017, 12:25 An advertising executive is mistaken for a spy and is pursued across the country while he looks for a way to survive. This one was alright, with good tension, but an off pacing sometimes. Also very predictable ending.
50 Oldboy (2003) tt0364569 Mar 25 2017, 14:50 Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik) is an ordinary Seoul businessman with a wife and little daughter who, after a drunken night on the town, is locked up in a strange, private "prison." No one will tell him why he's there or who his jailer is. The imprisonment last for 15 years until one day when Dae-su finds himself unexpectedly deposited on a grass-covered high-rise roof, determined to discover the mysterious enemy who had him locked up. (Tartan Films) I didn't feel engaged in anything happening. Maybe it's the protagonist of the film, or the overall feeling that it gave me. I don't plan on watching it again.
50 Opera (1987) tt0093677 May 02 2017, 14:08 A young opera singer is stalked by a deranged fan bent on killing the people associated with her to claim her for himself. Nothing special. Watch Tenebre instead.
50 The Outsider (2018) tt2011311 Apr 15 2018, 20:04 An epic set in post-WWII Japan and centered on an American former G.I. who joins the yakuza. (imdb) Not exactly bad, with some nice shots and soundtrack, but it seriously lacks authenticity and a leading personality. Bland, glossy visuals and a forgettable story make it a mediocre affair.
50 Pan's Labyrinth (2006) tt0457430 Feb 09 2017, 16:30 In 1944 fascist Spain, a girl, fascinated with fairy-tales, is sent along with her pregnant mother to live with her new stepfather, a ruthless captain of the Spanish army. During the night, she meets a fairy who takes her to an old faun in the center of the labyrinth. He tells her she's a princess, but must prove her royalty by surviving three gruesome tasks. If she fails, she will never prove herself to be the the true princess and will never see her real father, the king, again. (imdb) Not really gripping or entertaining.

50 Rear Window (1954) tt0047396 Feb 03 2017, 12:54 A wheelchair bound photographer spies on his neighbours from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder. Almost good. A likeable protagonist and intriguing story idea. But the execution is just too flat and boring.
50 The Red Shoes (1948) tt0040725 Jan 21 2019, 15:15 Under the authoritarian rule of charismatic ballet impressario Boris Lermontov, his proteges realize the full promise of their talents, but at a price: utter devotion to their art and complete loyalty to Lermontov himself. Under his near-obsessive guidance, young ballerina Victoria Page is poised for superstardom, but earns Lermontov's scorn when she falls in love with Julian Craster, composer of "The Red Shoes," the ballet Lermontov is staging to showcase her talents. (imdb) I liked some of it, but overall the lack of momentum is too serious. What a shame, this could be a pretty great film.
50 Repo Man (1984) tt0087995 Sep 29 2019, 11:53 Young punk Otto becomes a repo man after helping to steal a car, and stumbles into a world of wackiness as a result. (imdb) Clunky and outlandish drunk-flick.

On his journey he befriends slacker Jimmy the Fin (Peter Sarsgaard) and becomes involved in rescuing his neighbor Colette (Debra Kara Unger) from her own demons. Danny is antagonized by undercover narcotics agents (Anthony Lapaglia and Doug Hutchison) and sadistic dealer Pooh Bear (Vincent D'Onfronio). (imdb) It's an alright film which tries too hard to convince the viewer how deep and mysterious it is. To be honest, there is almost nothing that makes the film interesting or special.
50 Le Samouraï (1967) tt0062229 Mar 28 2019, 19:58 Hitman Jeff Costello is a perfectionist who always carefully plans his murders and who never gets caught. One night however, after killing a night-club owner, he's seen by witnesses. His efforts to provide himself with an alibi fail and more and more he gets driven into a corner. (imdb) Slow and aimless film that drifts into disaster. I like the inspector, but otherwise not very memorable.
50 Scarface (1983) tt0086250 Feb 03 2017, 08:36 In 1980 Miami, a determined Cuban immigrant takes over a drug empire while succumbing to greed. (imdb) Brute film, with the iconic 80's synthesized soundtrack. Many bland scenes, really not impressive.
50 Shadow of a Doubt (1943) tt0036342 Apr 25 2019, 17:58 A young woman thinks her uncle may be a serial killer. The idea is alright, but the result is wonky and unfocused. Maybe one or two great scenes in the whole film, the rest is a never-ending stream of inane palaver.
50 Sherlock (2010) tt1475582 Jul 29 2017, 14:12 A modern update finds the famous sleuth and his doctor partner solving crime in 21st century London. (imdb) It used to be pretty good, but at the point of season 4 it is an unbearable, self-important piece of shit.
50 Sleeping Giant (2015) tt3778086 May 10 2019, 20:26 The film deals extensively with themes of death, masculinity, as well as adolescent perceptions of love, friendship and sexuality. Sleeping Giant portrays a summer filled with euphoric moments as well as difficult times. The relationship between the boys is never predictable, yet always feels authentic. There will never again be a summer so intensely felt, so alive, so valuable to the forming of their characters. (imdb) Life-like but pointless film with mostly annoying characters.
50 Solaris (2002) tt0307479 Jul 08 2018, 15:23 The inhabitants of a space station orbiting the planet Solaris send a message back to Earth, reporting mysterious difficulties and requesting that psychologist Chris Kelvin visit them at the station. Better than the original; much less elaborate and contrived, which is a good thing. Beautiful visuals and score; slow and dry story.

Hauer plays a cop who previously lost his partner to some strange creature. Now the creature is back and its after him. (imdb) Ragged 90s action. Barely enjoyable, has some nice scenes, but also a lot of the typical nonsense.
50 Spring Breakers (2013) tt2101441 Feb 16 2017, 08:38 Four college girls who land in jail after robbing a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation find themselves bailed out by a drug and arms dealer who wants them to do some dirty work. (imdb) Very stylish, and easy on the viewer; the ending is quite qood. Honestly I don't know what to make of this movie.
50 The Sting (1973) tt0070735 Feb 03 2017, 06:55 In 1930s Chicago, a young con man seeking revenge for his murdered partner teams up with a master of the big con to win a fortune from a criminal banker. (imdb) It was alright, mostly because of the great Robert Redford.
50 Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) tt5027774 Dec 23 2018, 21:37 In this darkly comic drama, a mother personally challenges the local authorities to solve her daughter's murder, when they fail to catch the culprit. A completely miserable, dark experience. A few scenes are good regardless, but I wouldn't watch it again.
50 Tombstone (1993) tt0108358 May 04 2017, 08:32 A successul lawman's plans to retire anonymously in Tombstone, Arizona are distrupted by the kind of outlaws he was famous for eliminating (imdb) Not that great. Doc Holliday is legendary, but I didn't like any of the other protagonists. The "Best of Disney" soundtrack is a major flaw.

He hopes to find out more about this dream and buys a holiday at Rekall Inc. where they sell implanted memories. Now the story really begins and it's a rollercoaster ride until the massive end of the movie. (imdb) It's alright. The design is good, but the rest is damn sketchy and dumb.
50 Training Day (2001) tt0139654 Mar 22 2018, 21:52 A police drama about a veteran officer (Washington) who escorts a rookie (Hawke) on his first day with the LAPD's tough inner-city narcotics unit. (Warner Bros.) Saw it some time ago, but I didn't like it a lot. Especially the ending was disappointing.
50 Trainspotting (1996) tt0117951 Aug 31 2018, 13:13 Renton, deeply immersed in the Edinburgh drug scene, tries to clean up and get out, despite the allure of the drugs and influence of friends. I don't remember if this was good or not. I don't even remember a single thing that happened, except some shit flying around.
50 The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) tt0040897 Oct 07 2018, 18:03 Frank Dobbs and Bob Curtin, two Americans searching for work in Mexico, convince an old prospector to help them mine for gold in the Sierra Madre Mountains. It was okay, but felt a bit sluggish.
50 Triple Frontier (2019) tt1488606 Mar 15 2019, 14:29 Five former Special Forces operatives reunite to plan a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America. For the first time in their prestigious careers these unsung heroes undertake this dangerous mission for self instead of country. But when events take an unexpected turn and threaten to spiral out of control, their skills, their loyalties and their morals are pushed to a breaking point in an epic battle for survival. Not bad, but not good either. Feels rushed and not really on point.
50 Two-Lane Blacktop (1971) tt0067893 Mar 08 2017, 16:54 Story of two men drag racing across the USA in a primer grey 55 chevy. Wilson is the mechanic, James Taylor is the driver. (imdb) It breathes life and follows closely the duel on the road. But it is also quite boring; there is nothing to rest your eyes on or to enjoy silently.
50 Unforgiven (1992) tt0105695 Feb 05 2017, 23:03 Two retired sharp-shooters and a would-be gunslinger team up to claim a $1,000 reward for killing two cowboys who brutally disfigured a prostitute. I like the motive of saving a prostitute's honor in the middle of the wild west. But it was quite boring to sit through.
50 Vertigo (1958) tt0052357 Feb 03 2017, 12:56 Complex story about a San Francisco detective and his psychological troubles with fear of heights and obsession over a woman.(imdb) At first I was captured by the film, but then it got pretty annoying in terms of resolving the plot.
50 Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) tt0497465 Feb 03 2018, 21:48 Two girlfriends on a summer holiday in Spain become enamored with the same painter, unaware that his ex-wife, with whom he has a tempestuous relationship, is about to re-enter the picture. (imdb) The atmosphere is good, but the rest is rather meaningless, maybe driven by sexual attraction to the lead actresses?
50 Yojimbo (1961) tt0055630 Feb 02 2017, 11:57 A crafty ronin comes to a town divided by two criminal gangs and decides to play them against each other to free the town. (imdb) What makes it good is the grounded style. There is a genuineness to the protagonist that makes up for the lack of story.
40 The 400 Blows (1959) tt0053198 Mar 09 2018, 14:40 Antoine Doinel is a Parisian adolescent. His parents do not show much interest in him. He skips school to go to the movies and play with his friends. He discovers his mother has a lover (imdb) Naturalistic and with some sociological impact. But, it is not enjoyable or intriguing.
40 The Act of Killing (2012) tt2375605 May 06 2017, 09:01 In this chilling and inventive documentary, the unrepentant former members of Indonesian death squads are challenged to re-enact some of their many murders in the style of the American movies they love. (tiff.net) This probably smashed at Sundance or Cannes or whatever, but I couldn't wait for it to end. Just so, so very long and dry. Seriously, fuck this cold, lifeless social commentary.
40 Adam's Apples (2005) tt0418455 Aug 20 2017, 21:08 A wickedly dark comedy about a middle-aged neo-Nazi sentenced to community service at a small, countryside church. I didn't find it funny at all, just very dark and terrible. Overall nothing to be excited about.
40 The American West (2016) tt3738872 Oct 28 2018, 10:59 This series will provide unprecedented access to the wilderness, frontier lawlessness, and bloodshed of the 40 years between the end of the American Civil War and after the turn of the 20th Century, when the west was won. Each episode follows the stories and struggles of the West's most infamous outlaws as they fight for their land and identity. (imdb) Lackluster and bland. Does all the things I learned to hate about mainstream documentaries. -- Can we not get scenes longer than one minute without being interrupted by some irrelevant author's chatter?
40 The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) tt0443680 Dec 21 2018, 09:56 Robert Ford joins Jesse James's gang, only to become resentful of the legendary outlaw and hatch a plan to kill the fastest gun in the West. (imdb) A boring and pointless movie.
40 Baby Driver (2017) tt3890160 Jul 06 2019, 12:49 After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail. (imdb) Tries to be funny, cool and intense but fails at everything. Lacking true spirit, instead just has a weird music gimmick.
40 The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970) tt0065143 Mar 15 2019, 14:32 A writer is stalked by a serial killer after witnessing a murder attempt on one woman's life. (imdb) I started watching this some time ago, but I lost interest quickly. Maybe I'll try again some day.
40 Birdman (2014) tt2562232 Feb 03 2017, 05:14 A washed-up actor who once played an iconic superhero must overcome his ego and family trouble as he mounts a Broadway play in a bid to reclaim his past glory. Highly overrated trash. No empathy for most of the characters, the "soundtrack" is idiotic, the plot is going nowhere, you are left with dissatisfaction.
40 Blackhat (2015) tt2717822 Feb 01 2017, 07:41 A furloughed convict and his American and Chinese partners as they hunt a high-level cybercrime network from Chicago to Los Angeles to Hong Kong to Jakarta. (imdb) Forgettable crap.

There they encounter Joseph (Andrew Howard), who offers his assistance, but tensions begin to mount as the couple's relationship becomes strained leaving them vulnerable to Joseph's sinister agenda... (Revolver Entertainment) The plot is shallow nonsense, everything else average at best. Tremendous runtime problem here - could have been a "not bad" 30-minute short film.
40 Bloodline (2015) tt3520702 Sep 30 2019, 17:42 A family of adult siblings find that their past secrets and scars are revealed when their black sheep of a brother returns home. (imdb) I tried. But the pacing is excruciatingly slow, and the characters not that interesting. Endless talking scenes really drain all the suspense.
40 Blow (2001) tt0221027 Aug 21 2017, 20:39 A high-velocity look at George Jung's (Depp) spectacular rise and fall -- based on the true story of how powder cocaine turned into America's biggest drug problem and how one man from the blue-collar suburbs became the 35 billion-dollar a-year conduit to the Colombian cartels. Ted Demme directs this riveting look at the manic allure -- and dangerous reality -- of a drug smuggler's everyday life, and unfolds one of the great untold stories from the recent annals of American crime and culture. (New Line Cinema) Nothing special. Every aspect of this "drug empire rise and fall" film has been done better elsewhere (e.g. Goodfellas); acceptable but not good.
40 Branded to Kill (1967) tt0061882 Feb 02 2017, 16:20 The film's story centers on Hanada, a.k.a. "No. 3 Killer," the third-best hit man in Japanese organized crime... (imdb) It's a weird, meditating, sometimes cheesy film. The score is very well done. The rapid cuts, even within a scene, make it hard to grasp what is going on.
40 Breaking Bad (2008) tt0903747 Jul 18 2017, 14:05 A chemistry teacher diagnosed with a terminal lung cancer teams up with his former student to cook and sell crystal meth. I don't get it. Am I supposed to praise this series as the best TV production ever? It was alright, but as I recall, there were many rough spots. I even got bored/annoyed sometimes, but had nothing better to do at the time.
40 Caché (2005) tt0387898 Feb 01 2017, 20:14 Georges (Auteuil), a television talk show host, and his wife Anne (Binoche), are living the perfect life of modern comfort and security. One day, their idyll is disrupted in the form of a mysterious videotape that appears on their doorstep. On it they are being filmed by a hidden camera from across the street with no clues as to who shot it, or why... (Sony Pictures Classics) Unsatisfying. The design is dry with many static ensembles, and there are some interesting and frightening ideas here.
40 Candyman (1992) tt0103919 Feb 18 2017, 18:22 Helen Lyle is a student who decides to write a thesis about local legends and myths. She visits a part of the town, where she learns about the legend of the Candyman, a one-armed man who appears when you say his name five times, in front of a mirror (imdb) Never does more than being a standard low-intensity horror flick.
40 Castlevania (2017) tt6517102 Jul 12 2017, 21:00 A vampire hunter fights to save a besieged city from an army of otherworldly creatures controlled by Dracula. (imdb) Surprisingly bad. The animations are nice, but everything else is sub-standard and unsatisfying.
40 Control (2007) tt0421082 Aug 26 2018, 17:46 A profile of Ian Curtis (Riley), the enigmatic singer of Joy Division whose personal, professional, and romantic troubles led him to commit suicide at the age of 23. (imdb) 90% of the film are sleep-inducing, flat and uninspiring. I couldn't wait for it to end.
40 The Conversation (1974) tt0071360 Feb 03 2019, 13:11 A paranoid and personally-secretive surveillance expert has a crisis of conscience when he suspects that a couple he is spying on will be murdered. Incredibly boring and drawn-out drama. The characters are as intriguing as a pile of dirt, and the story is almost non-existent.
40 Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) tt0097123 Mar 03 2019, 12:38 The film's title indicates the themes of two separate stories: 1) a renowned opthalmologist is desperate to cut off an adulterous relationship...which ends up in murder; and 2) an ethically frustrated documentary filmmaker woos an attractive television producer while making a film about her insufferably self-centered boss. (MGM) Slow, pedestrian, meandering film that tries for deep philosophical reasoning.
40 Cube (1997) tt0123755 Feb 09 2017, 16:33 Six people wake up from their daily lives and find they are imprisoned in a deadly maze. Slowly they discover that each holds a key to unlocking this diabolical puzzle. But as a mathematical formula for escape begins to reveal itself, the enemy rises from within themselves and survival is threatened by the same human weaknesses that created the Cube. (Trimark Pictures) Intriguing, but then loses momentum.
40 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) tt0421715 Feb 03 2017, 05:44 Tells the story of Benjamin Button, a man who starts aging backwards with bizarre consequences. (imdb) I quickly lost interest when I noticed that the film would roll on for quite a while. It hits you over the head again and again with the love story/tragedy.
40 The Dark Tower (2017) tt1648190 Jul 02 2019, 13:53 The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O'Dim, also known as the Man in Black, determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black. No, this is not a sufficient movie. Try again. -- I liked the fast-paced beginning, but the typical audience pandering crap ruins the second half.
40 Dawn of the Dead (1978) tt0077402 Mar 30 2017, 10:01 Following an epidemic of zombies two Philadelphia SWAT team members, a traffic reporter and his girlfriend seek refuge in a secluded shopping mall. Grounded survival film without unnecessary drama. But the bad editing ruins most of the charm and momentum.
40 The Dead Zone (1983) tt0085407 Jul 07 2018, 16:12 A man awakens from a coma to discover he has a psychic detective ability. (imdb) I almost fell asleep when watching this. Lame movie, wasted potential.
40 Deep Red (1975) tt0073582 Jul 10 2018, 20:41 A musician witnesses the murder of a famous psychic, and then teams up with a fiesty reporter to find the killer while evading attempts on their lives by the unseen killer bent on keeping a dark secret buried. This lost me somewhere in its garbage story, acting and sound design.
40 Double Indemnity (1944) tt0036775 Feb 01 2017, 07:53 An insurance rep lets himself be talked into a murder/insurance fraud scheme that arouses an insurance investigator's suspicions. (imdb) It was alright, but not very memorable or interesting.
40 Dune (1984) tt0087182 Jul 07 2018, 16:25 In the distant future, a man appears who may be the prophet that a long-suffering galaxy has been waiting for. This is jarring and insufferable.

Infinitely boring and tedious. I developed complete disgust for the two main characters - and that is no good.
40 F for Fake (1973) tt0072962 Mar 22 2018, 10:24 A documentary about fraud and fakery. (imdb) This feels very much like a train going off the rails at high speed, while Orson Welles stands in front, holding preachy monologues about authenticity in art and life... Slightly infuriating and boring in equal parts.
40 The Fall (2008) tt0460791 Feb 26 2018, 10:29 Original premiere in 2006 at the Toronto Film Festival. In a hospital a little girl with a broken collar bone meets a bedridden man who starts telling her a fantastical story which reflects his state of mind. As time goes by fiction and reality start to intertwine in this uplifting epic fantasy. (imdb) Couldn't bother to finish this. The intro was excellent, but the following hour just felt devoid of life or authenticity.
40 Film Noir (2007) tt0970933 Mar 01 2017, 06:49 Private detective Sam Ruben's clever plan falls apart with the onset of amnesia. Everyone is trying to kill him and he doesn't know why. The classic film noir milieu now comes to you in the form of an animated feature. (imdb) It tried something new, and failed. The animations are clunky and completely mess up the flow of the movie. Would have been much better with actors.
40 Forrest Gump (1994) tt0109830 Jul 17 2017, 10:34 Forrest, Forrest Gump is a simple man with little brain activity but good intentions. He struggles through childhood with his best and only friend Jenny. His 'mama' teaches him the ways of life and leaves him to choose his destiny. (imdb) Found nothing great about this.
40 From Dusk Till Dawn (2014) tt3337194 Jan 12 2019, 19:34 A Texas Ranger is in hot pursuit of the infamous Gecko brothers. Looks sloppy and bad just from the first few episodes.

But inside this investigation lie secrets and a labyrinthine maze of class and corruption, evil and innocence...all leading up to one man's extraordinary choice in a world where right and wrong have become blurred. (Miramax) Uninspired and boring filmmaking, with equally shallow characters (i.e. Michelle Monaghan). The ending is alright.
40 Gone Girl (2014) tt2267998 Mar 03 2019, 10:27 On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne reports that his wife, Amy, has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife? (imdb) The story falls apart when you think too hard about it. The wooden acting by Ben Affleck doesn't help either.
40 Gone in 60 Seconds (2000) tt0187078 Feb 15 2017, 09:31 Car theft in Long Beach went down 47% when Randall "Memphis" Raines walked away from the life. He gets dragged back into it by assuming the job his brother Kip screwed up for stolen-car broker Raymond Calitri: steal 50 exotic cars and have them on a container ship by 8 AM Friday morning, and he got this news on a Monday. With Calitri threatening to kill him and Kip, and the police GRAB unit breathing down his neck, Memphis reassembles his old crew and attempts to pull off the logistically impossible. (imdb) Dialogue from a TV scrapbook, flashy camerawork and score, shallow story. But if you want mindless fun that requires a minimum of your attention, give it a try.
40 The Great Beauty (2013) tt2358891 Feb 03 2017, 05:53 The story of an aging writer who bitterly recollects his passionate, lost youth. A portrait of today's Rome. (imdb) The intro was pretty good, but then it just went downhill, and got very tedious. There is no meaning here whatsoever, so why watch it?
40 Hannibal (2013) tt2243973 Feb 01 2017, 08:53 Explores the early relationship between the renowned psychiatrist and his patient, a young FBI criminal profiler, who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers. (imdb) Too much style, too few actually impressive or memorable scenes. Goes downhill after season 1.
40 Harakiri (1962) tt0056058 Mar 10 2017, 14:00 An elder ronin samurai arrives at a feudal lord's home and requests an honorable place to commit suicide. But when the ronin inquires about a younger samurai who arrived before him things take an unexpected turn. (imdb) Not that great. I was getting bored after the first 45 minutes. And the ending does not reward you enough for sitting through the tiring narration.

But when slick casino pro Jimmy (Jackson) threatens to reveal a secret from Sydney's past that could destroy his relationship with the newlyweds, Sydney decides to hedge his bets and not leave anything to chance. (Sony) Boring, uninteresting protagonist and story. Bad film.
40 Hatfields & McCoys (2012) tt1985443 Jan 21 2019, 15:28 Anse Hatfield and Randall McCoy, close friends and comrades until near the end of the Civil War, return to their neighboring homes to increasing tensions, misunderstandings and resentments. I somehow lost interest in who's killing who and why. Forgettable TV filler material.

(tiff.net) It starts very promising, but then it goes downhill with the typical nordic absence of style and rather unemotional execution. It goes from 0 to bat shit crazy very fast, and some things feel sloppy and nonsensical.
40 Hot Fuzz (2007) tt0425112 Feb 03 2017, 05:32 In this action-packed comedy from the makers of "Shaun of the Dead," Nicholas Angel (Pegg) is the finest police officer London has to offer, with an arrest record 400% higher than any other officer on the force. He's so good, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, Angel's superiors send him to a place where his talents won't be quite so embarrassing -- the sleepy and seemingly crime-free village of Sandford. A small village is about to get some big city justice. (Rogue Pictures) Did not find it funny, as usual with Edgar Wright.
40 House of Cards (2013) tt1856010 Mar 04 2018, 09:40 A Congressman works with his equally conniving wife to exact revenge on the people who betrayed him. (imdb) Started okay, but it got much worse after season 1.

Unsatisfying. All the time, I was waiting for something spectacular to reveal itself.. but then the film just ends. The score is good - too good for such a flat movie.

Uncovering illegal activities including money laundering, arms trading, and the destabilization of governments, Salinger and Whitman's investigation takes them from Berlin to Milan to New York and to Istanbul. Clive Owen doesn't really fit, and there is too much explaining. Everything else is pure standard, except the good first scene and the nice score.
40 Irrational Man (2015) tt3715320 Feb 03 2018, 21:50 A tormented philosophy professor finds a will to live when he commits an existential act. (imdb) Completely forgettable.

Not that great. The protagonist is a jerk who is sometimes hilarious to watch; but most of of the film didn't capture my interest.
40 Live by Night (2016) tt2361317 Jan 19 2019, 13:11 A story set in the Prohibition Era and centered around a group of individuals and their dealings in the world of organized crime. (imdb) The action is visceral, and I like the 1920s design, but there is hardly any momentum or coherent story.
40 The Living Daylights (1987) tt0093428 Feb 16 2018, 19:44 James Bond is living on the edge to stop an evil arms dealer from starting another world war. Bond crosses all seven continents in order to stop the evil Whitaker and General Koskov. Just a drag. Nobody looks like they give a shit, Timothy Dalton is not that great, the score is obnoxious; it would make a whole lot of difference if it was fun to watch.
40 Lost in Translation (2003) tt0335266 Feb 10 2017, 14:01 Unable to sleep, Bob and Charlotte, two Americans in Tokyo, cross paths one night in the luxury hotel bar. This chance meeting soon becomes a surprising friendship. Charlotte and Bob venture through Tokyo, having often hilarious encounters with its citizens, and ultimately discover a new belief in life's possibilities. Would be an excellent short film. The length is a major problem; especially because Murray is not really convincing.
40 Lucy (2014) tt2872732 Mar 07 2017, 16:18 Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) becomes the first human to use 100 percent of the brain's capacity. Great visual effects, but the story is a steaming pile of nonsense.

40 Maverick (1994) tt0110478 Apr 12 2019, 19:52 Bret Maverick, needing money for a poker tournament, faces various comic mishaps and challenges, including a charming woman thief. (imdb) Too noisy and over the top. Probably highly watchable when you are drunk with some friends.
40 Miami Vice (2006) tt0430357 Aug 03 2017, 08:58 The cocaine cowboys of the 80's are gone, but Miami's Casablanca allure, the undercover cops and the attitudes of Michael Mann's culturally influential television series have been enhanced by time in the feature film version of Miami Vice. (Universal Pictures) It's a bit staggering how anyone thought Miami Vice should be so grim and realistic; overall it is just a very bland and joyless experience.
40 Moonlight (2016) tt4975722 Jul 16 2019, 20:19 A three-part narrative spanning the childhood, adolescence, and adulthood of an African-American man who survives Miami's drug-plagued inner city, finding love in unexpected places and the possibility of change within himself. 40 My Darling Clementine (1946) tt0038762 Jan 27 2019, 14:52 A Western retelling the tale of the Shoot-out at the OK Corral. (imdb) As Doc Holliday slowly coughed himself to death, I was dying of boredom.
40 The Negotiator (1998) tt0120768 Feb 01 2017, 07:55 Maverick negotiator Danny Roman is framed for embezzlement and the murder of his partner and best friend. A mess. Keeps you waiting for a big reveal, only to deliver more and more brainless "big man" talk.

(imdb) Stylish like a fashion catalogue, but void of feeling or authenticity. Yes, that is the point, but then how should I care about anything that's happening in the film? - Also, fails miserably at being clever.

Parts of it are really meticulous, but other parts are boring/annoying/nonsense.
40 Quiz Show (1994) tt0110932 Feb 24 2019, 14:32 An idealistic young lawyer (Rob Morrow) working for a Congressional subcommittee in the late 1950s discovers that TV quiz shows are being fixed. His investigation focusses on two contestants on the show "Twenty-One": Herbert Stempel (John Turturro), a brash working-class Jew from Queens, and Charles Van Doren (Ralph Fiennes), the patrician scion of one of America's leading literary families. Based on a true story. (imdb) Way too long and dragged out. There is no material to work with, and it ends on a half-assed conclusion.
40 Ride the Pink Horse (1947) tt0039768 Oct 07 2018, 07:27 In the bordertown of San Pablo, preparing for an annual 'Mexican Fiesta,' arrives Gagin: tough, mysterious and laconic. His mission: to find the equally mysterious Frank Hugo, evidently for revenge; or is it blackmail? FBI agent Retz is also after the elusive Hugo. Everyone in town is enigmatic, especially Pila, a mystical teenager who follows Gagin around and has premonitions of his death. Also involved are a classic femme fatale and an antique carousel with a pink horse... (imdb) Drags along horribly, and the shoved-in inane side character doesn't help either.
40 River (2015) tt4258440 Jan 19 2019, 17:05 John River is a brilliant police inspector whose genius lies side-by-side with the fragility of his mind. He is a man haunted by the murder victims whose cases he must lay to rest. I really tried to sit through the series, but it's too damn boring and stretched out; I don't care about the story or character(s).
40 Rubber (2010) tt1612774 Feb 27 2017, 14:31 A tire is on his way through the desert to kill or destroy everything passing his way. At first it's only things or animals but then it's starting to kill people as well. Till he meets a girl he seems to be fond of. After sparing her, the sheriff wants to use her as a decoy to lure the tire into a trap. Could have been genuinely great, but the dialogue and production design was a failure. Maybe if they hadn't tried to be so smart (while being utterly shallow), they could have made a good film.
40 Sabotage (2014) tt1742334 Jul 25 2018, 14:58 Members of an elite DEA task force find themselves being taken down one by one after they rob a drug cartel safe house. (imdb) Boring and stupid after a while.
40 Savages (2012) tt1615065 Jan 05 2019, 10:50 Pot growers Ben and Chon face off against the Mexican drug cartel who kidnapped their shared girlfriend. (imdb) I still don't know if this was meant to be taken seriously. Just what the hell did I just watch? Ridiculous nonsense, crappy voice over, and generally bad acting.
40 Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) tt0446029 Feb 03 2017, 08:47 Scott Pilgrim must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes in order to win her heart. Overacted for comic purposes. It's just not that funny.
40 Secret City (2016) tt4976512 Mar 16 2019, 19:45 Amidst rising tension between China and America, Canberra press gallery journalist Harriet Dunkley (played by Anna Torv) forces her way closer to the truth, uncovering a secret city of interlocked conspiracies which will threaten her career, her life and endangers the freedom of every Australian. (showcasechannel.com) Boring, can't be bothered to watch more than two episodes.
40 The Servant (1963) tt0057490 Feb 25 2018, 19:35 This film takes a sharp look at British class relations via a dramatic turning of the tables between a dainty Oxbridge twit bachelor (played by a young and dapper James Fox) and his contemptuous manservant (imdb) This film slipped my mind almost immediately after watching. More like a chore to endure and then move on.
40 Shaun of the Dead (2004) tt0365748 Feb 03 2017, 05:37 This romantic zombie comedy follows the bloody funny adventures of underachiever Shaun and his best mate Ed as they cope with a zombie invasion of North London and attempt to rescue Shaun's girlfriend Liz and his Mum. It's going to be one hell of a weekend. Unfunny to an annoying degree. I know it's supposed to be a satire, but who cares when the satire is so bad?
40 The Skin I Live In (2011) tt1189073 Mar 23 2017, 12:55 A brilliant plastic surgeon, haunted by past tragedies, creates a type of synthetic skin that withstands any kind of damage. His guinea pig: a mysterious and volatile woman who holds the key to his obsession. I don't like the Canal+ typical visuals and score; the story dragged itself along, but the reveal redeemed it somewhat. Overall, nothing spectacular.
40 The Social Network (2010) tt1285016 Feb 06 2017, 10:22 On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history... but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications. Nothing special, with unlikeable characters.
40 Solaris (1972) tt0069293 Aug 05 2017, 17:03 A psychologist is sent to investigate the mysterious crisis which has occurred on board a space station orbiting a remote planet. Made me fall asleep.
40 Sphere (1998) tt0120184 Feb 05 2017, 22:59 A new dimension in thrills in the deep-water, deep-suspense sci-fi adventure centered on a spacecraft that plunged into the Pacific -- 300 years ago. (Warner Bros.) Not bad, but far from good. My biggest complaint is that it could've been more intelligent and sharp instead of playing it safe.
40 The Straight Story (1999) tt0166896 May 05 2019, 19:33 "The Straight Story" chronicles a trip made by 73-year-old Alvin Straight from Laurens, Iowa, to Mt. Zion, Wis., in 1994 while riding a lawn mower. The man undertook his strange journey to mend his relationship with his ill, estranged, 75-year-old brother Lyle. (imdb) Highly boring and tedious, although it is made with great care. Some of the scenery and music is very beautiful, but that was not enough in this case.
40 Swimming Pool (2003) tt0324133 Mar 24 2018, 19:11 Europe's most daring and inventive writer/director, François Ozon, reunites with his two favorite leading ladies, Charlotte Rampling (of "Under the Sand") and Ludivine Sagnier (of "8 Women") in this deliciously sophisticated and sexy mystery. (Focus Features) Just bad. Boring, bland and inane, while trying to convey a sense of mystery. The only part that is interesting is the very last 5 minutes, so we get a ridiculously low interesting/boring ratio.
40 Taken (2008) tt0936501 Jul 16 2018, 17:01 [Originally Released in 2008] A former spy (Neeson) relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter (Grace), who has been forced into the slave trade. (imdb) Silly, retarded, piece of shit.
40 The Third Man (1949) tt0041959 Oct 07 2018, 18:02 Arriving in Vienna, Holly Martins learns that his friend Harry Lime, who has invited him, recently died in a car accident.(imdb) Didn't interest me in any way, as far as I remember.
40 Thunderbolt (1947) tt0038171 Jul 06 2018, 21:31 A documentary on the P-47 Thunderbolt fighter aircraft and its use in missions over Europe and the Pacific Theatre in the Second World War. (imdb) Christ, this is boring. Feels like 5 minutes of fighter plane footage and 35 minutes of filler.
40 The Tree of Life (2011) tt0478304 Mar 11 2017, 10:35 The story centers around a family with three boys in the 1950s. The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence. (imdb) There's a thin line between epic beauty and epic boredom...
40 Valhalla Rising (2010) tt0862467 Mar 30 2017, 10:08 1000 AD, for years, One Eye, a mute warrior of supernatural strength, has been held prisoner by the Norse chieftain Barde. He takes delivery of a 1970 Dodge Challenger to take from Colorado to Frisco, California. Shortly after pickup, he takes a bet to get the car there in less than 15 hours. After a few run-ins with motorcycle cops and highway patrol they start a chase to bring him into custody... (imdb) What a terrible start for a movie. Has someone shuffled the scenes in post production? Too boring and irritating to sit through.
40 Velvet Buzzsaw (2019) tt7043012 Feb 11 2019, 09:21 Big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce. (imdb) High-budget dumb horror flick.
40 Youth of the Beast (1963) tt0057697 Mar 22 2017, 11:40 A violent thug plays opposing yakuza bosses against each other. (imdb) It has a nice look and feel, but I was just massively bored throughout. Maybe need to watch again some time.
40 The Zero Theorem (2013) tt2333804 Dec 28 2018, 17:09 A computer hacker's goal to discover the reason for human existence continually finds his work interrupted thanks to the Management; this time, they send a teenager and lusty love interest to distract him. (imdb) Dirty and dark visual style; tedious story, useless characters.
30 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) tt0062622 Feb 02 2017, 11:45 A unique cinematic journey, "2001: A Space Odyssey" travels across enormous distances of both space and time. The story it tells is on the one hand about the collective adventure of human life on and off this planet. But it is also about something lying beyond the bounds of humanity, something lying in the true realms of the mysterious. If you manage to stay interested until the end, then you will have seen one of the shittiest endings ever made. The film is a mess, trying desperately to seem sophisticated.

(20th Century Fox) It has some hilarious moments, although you know, deep inside, it is just a piece of crap.
30 Fritz the Cat (1972) tt0068612 Feb 27 2017, 21:23 A hypocritical swinging college student cat raises hell in a satiric vision of various elements on the 1960's. (imdb) Sleazy, boring rubbish.
30 Hobo with a Shotgun (2011) tt1640459 Feb 10 2017, 15:05 A homeless vigilante blows away crooked cops, pedophile Santas, and other scumbags with his trusty pump-action shotgun. Brightly colored, ultraviolent trash with terrible acting and score. Was probably made by a second year film student. -- With a more capable director, could've been a cult classic.
30 The Holy Mountain (1973) tt0071615 Mar 31 2017, 10:31 A Christlike figure wanders through bizarre, grotesque scenarios filled with religious and sacrilegious imagery. The constant, overblown symbolism made me roll my eyes. The "interpretations" are completely obvious attacks on religion/politics. - The whole thing is just a terrible art film; neither smart nor mysterious.
30 The Insider (1999) tt0140352 Feb 06 2017, 10:14 Balls-out "60 Minutes" producer Lowell Bergman sniffs a story when a former research biologist for Brown & Williamson, Jeff Wigand, won't talk to him. When the company leans hard on Wigand to honor a confidentiality agreement, he gets his back up. Trusting Bergman and despite a crumbling marriage, he goes on camera for a Mike Wallace interview and risks arrest for contempt of court... (imdb) Bloated and tedious to sit through. There's nothing to see here besides Al Pacino making phone calls.
30 The IT Crowd (2006) tt0487831 May 11 2018, 16:35 The comedic adventures of a rag-tag group of technical support workers at a large corporation. I hate sitcoms
30 Now You See Me (2013) tt1670345 Jul 18 2017, 14:10 An FBI agent and an Interpol detective track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money. This film has almost disappeared from my memory, but I can faintly remember it as being bullshit.
30 Now You See Me 2 (2016) tt3110958 Jul 18 2017, 14:11 The Four Horsemen resurface and are forcibly recruited by a tech genius to pull off their most impossible heist yet. (imdb) This film has almost disappeared from my memory, but I can faintly remember it as being also bullshit.
30 Psycho (1960) tt0054215 Feb 03 2017, 12:23 A young female embezzler arrives at the Bates Motel after stealing $40 thousand, which has terrible secrets of its own in the form of an odd proprietor and his domineering, never-seen mother. Did not grip me at any moment.
30 Strangers on a Train (1951) tt0044079 Feb 01 2017, 08:22 You'd like your wife killed, wouldn't you? I'll do it for you if you'll kill someone for me, and since we're strangers we'll be free of suspicion (imdb) Boring. It is really not enough to build a full-length film on 1 interesting scene.
30 Underground (1995) tt0114787 May 06 2017, 07:39 The story starts from an underground manufacture of weapons of Belgrade, during the WWII, and evolves into fairly surreal situations... (imdb) Couldn't bother to watch more than 55 minutes. Very off-putting and dirty.
30 Zelig (1983) tt0086637 Feb 07 2017, 14:01 "Documentary" about a man who can look and act like whoever he's around, and meets various famous people. (imdb) The fake documentary was made with extreme effort. But it's overall very nonsensical and boring.
20 The Big Bang Theory (2007) tt0898266 Feb 03 2017, 05:41 A woman who moves into an apartment across the hall from two brilliant but socially awkward physicists shows them how little they know about life outside of the laboratory. (imdb) Terrible show. It tries so hard to have "smart" humour, and while failing at that, just feeds you usual sitcom bullshit (but with nerds lol!). The laugh tracks are used to an obscene degree.
20 The Core (2003) tt0298814 Feb 09 2017, 16:28 A wildly diverse team of professionals journey into unknown regions of the earth in the hopes of detonating a nuclear device which they hope will reactivate the earth's core and restore balance to the planet. (Paramount) You should lock every disc of this in an unobtanium safe and throw away the key. Waste of time. (hmm, this sounded funnier in my head..)
20 Doctor Strange (2016) tt1211837 Feb 01 2017, 11:51 A neurosurgeon with a destroyed career sets out to repair his hands only to find himself protecting the world from inter-dimensional threats. It is typical Marvel shit. It offers nothing but the shallowest of gags, the most standard Hollywood design, the overflowing action with rapid cuts. Although one sequence here was really impressive.
20 Evil Dead II (1987) tt0092991 Feb 08 2017, 18:47 Ash (Campbell), the sole survivor of "The Evil Dead," continues his struggle with the forces of the dead, with his girlfriend Linda. The two discover a mysterious tape recorder and hear the voice of Professor Knoby reciting passages from the Necronomicon, or Book of the Dead. The professor's words invoke a spell that unleashes the spirit of evil alive in the remote forest surrounding them... (imdb) If the goal was to spit on everything the first film established, then well done. Unbearable bullshit.
20 Into the Wild (2007) tt0758758 Feb 02 2017, 10:15 Freshly graduated from college and with a promising future ahead, 22-year-old Christopher McCandless chose instead to walk out of his privileged life and into the wild in search of adventure. What happened to him on the way transformed this young wanderer into an enduring symbol for countless people. Was Christopher McCandless a heroic adventurer or a naïve idealist, a rebellious 1990s Thoreau or another lost American son, a fearless risk-taker or a tragic figure who wrestled with the precarious balance between man and nature? (Paramount Vantage) The protagonist is such a prick, and the narration so pretentious. The whole motive of the film is "guy runs away from home", but his smart talking should make you believe he is on a mission. Unfortunately, this film has not many things to say. Things get emotional at the end.
20 A Serbian Film (2010) tt1273235 Feb 01 2017, 12:14 An aging porn star agrees to participate in an "art film" in order to make a clean break from the business, only to discover that he has been drafted into making a pedophilia and necrophilia themed snuff film. A film for voyeurs who are desensitized by the internet. Besides the infamous scenes, it's really boring and just delays time, because apparently they didn't know how to fill the non-shocking parts.
20 White Heat (1949) tt0042041 Feb 01 2017, 15:46 A psychopathic criminal with a mother complex makes a daring break from prison and leads his old gang in a chemical plant heist. Shortly after the plan takes place, events take a crazy turn. The greatest amount of time is wasted with story that goes nowhere. The ending does not take a "crazy turn" at all, very disappointing. The score is terrible, it is blatant and obscenely loud. The protagonist as crazed gunslinger is quite interesting. Overall not worth any of your time.
